Posted Jun 28/13 - THIRD TIME THE CHARM AS CARDS HANG ON TO DEFEAT A's

The Cardinals hung on to defeat the A’s 5-4 last night.  Although the Cards defeated the A's in tournament play, this was the redbirds first regular season victory over the A’s in their third attempt.  With this win the Cards ended their two-game losing streak and are now sitting in a comfort zone where they can start a good beginning into the remainder of the 2013 season.

The Cards from start to end looked quite confident and never gave any chance to the A’s to take control of the game. Their starting rotation and batting lineup played quite aggressive and eventually led the Cards to a victory.

Assistant Coach Greg Krawchuk, who took over in the 5th Inning after Coach Darren Crilly left for undisclosed reasons, was pleased with the win.  "This is not an indication of what's going to happen the next day or the next week or the next month," Krawchuk said. "But it definitely snaps the feeling of, 'Aww, man, are we ever going to win again? Everyone knows how bad we've been struggling with confidence and when you win, it eases the tension, eases the pressure. We know what it feels like to win again. It was obviously a big night for us."

Though the A's on the other hand also played well, the Cardinal’s played just a little better.  The Cardinals now have a great chance to carry this momentum forward next Tuesday when they take on the Braves.

Reid Brittnell pitched two scoreless innings with 4 Ks for the Cards before he was relieved by Ethan Meyer who pitched two solid innings, surrendering only one unearned run.  Nolan Machibroda pitched the final 3 innings surrendering three (two unearned) runs.  Brittnell had the play of the game defensively when he corralled a sure double for the first out of the 7th.  Graham Forrester, Garrett Krawchuk and Ethan Meyer each had singles for the Cards. Tyler Stadnichuk, who left the game at the end of the 5th when he mishandled a throw during a rundown, is expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday.
