Posted May 22/16 - 9-0 Victory in Jordan has Outlaws back at .500

Robb Larson, Grant Carlson, Paul Oelrich and Mike Roth all tally multiple hits...

 Outlaws-9 / Jordan Alers - 0

Always a treat playing in Jordan at the Mini-Met.  The Outlaws were there this past Sunday to take on the Jordan Alers.

The Outlaws went down in order in the first inning.

Ryan Carlson got the nod for the visiting Outlaws and pitched around two walks and a single to keep the score 0-0 after 1 inning.

Mike Roth got things started by opening the 2nd inning with a double.  Grant Carlson followed with a single to left and advanced to second after the left fielder bobbled the ball.  Robb Larson then stepped in and launched a ball to deep left field.  The ball boomed off of the fence about 3 feet short of a homerun as Robb trotted into second with a 2 RBI double.  Two outs later, Gabe Kerkaert drove in Larson with a single.  Jeff Appel forced some hustle out of Kerkaert, lining a double to the right center field gap that plated Kerkaert all the way from first base.  (He can still run....Gabe...not Appel. hahahah!)  Ryan Carlson would then work a base on balls but the rally would end with 4 runs scored.

Ryan Carlson found his mojo in the 2nd with only one runner reaching on a fielding error.  R.C. struck out one Aler hitter and preserved the 4-0 lead for the Outlaws.

Back to work in the 3rd inning, Sam Baumgartner led off with a base on balls.  Ryan Meyer followed Sammy with a single to right field but was quickly erased on a fielders choice.  Clean up hitter Mike Roth then boomed sacrifice fly to left field driving in Baumgartner.  Grant Carlson was then plunked but the scoring was limited to one run in the third.  (Shocker...a Carlson getting hit by a pitch.)

R.C. continued to cruise in the home half of the third putting the Alers down in order.  The inning was highlighted defensively by Ryan Meyer at first base.  Ryno made three fantastic scoops in a row.  If you can get it near him...he will catch it.  Very fun to watch.

Jeremiah Fitzgerald opened the top of the 4th with a base hit to right field.  Jason Beckett then somehow put a bunt down the third baseline.  I type somehow because the pitch would probably have hit him in the face had he not gotten the bat on it.  The Aler pitcher came off the mound and made an errant throw that got by the 1st baseman.  Fitzy (who can also still run) rounded the bases and crossed the plate to extend the Outlaw's lead to 6-0.  Gabe Kerkaert and Jeff Appel were then plunked but both were left stranded.

Carlson continued his solid pitching performance by putting up another blank frame in the 4th.  4 innings of work would be the end of R.C.'s day, giving up only one hit and striking out 1.  Rumor has it Ryan has a scoreless inning streak in tact.  Shhhhhhhhhhh...don't mention it to him!  Most of the credit goes to his brother Grant who does the catching anyways.  LOL!

Another big inning for the Outlaws in the 5th.  With one out Paul Oelrich, Mike Roth and Grand Carlson strung together three singles in a row.  Oelrich scored on Carlson's line drive to left field.  Robb Larson then made it 4 hits in a row with a  single down the left field line.  Jeremiah Fitzgerald then drove in the second run of the inning, punching a sacrifice fly to the outfield that plated Roth.  Back to back walks from Jason Beckett and Gabe Kerkaert once again loaded the bases.  Grant Carlson scurried home on a wild pitch during Beckett's at bat and stretched the Outlaw lead to 9-0.  That was it for the scoring in the 5th for the Outlaws.

Paul Oelrich came on in relief of Carlson in the home half of the 5th.  Paul made quick work of the Alers pitching around a 1 out bloop single to right field.

The Outlaws went quietly in the 6th with Sam Baumgartner representing the only base runner after working a base on balls.

Oelrich continued to dice through the Alers lineup in the bottom of the 6th, putting the home team down in order on three ground balls.

Paul also had the only hit for the Outlaws in the 7th as he led off the inning with a base knock.  The next three Outlaws were retired in order to end the inning.

Oelrich slammed the door shut in the bottom of the 7th pitching around a lead off walk while adding two strikeouts.  Paul finished the day with 3 innings pitched, 1 hit and 3 K's.

Grant Carlson and Mike Roth were both 2 for 3 at the plate while both scoring twice and driving in one.  One of Roth's knocks was a double.  Paul Oelrich was 2 for 4 and scored, Robb Larson was 2 for 4 with a 2 RBI double and scored, Gabe Kerkaert was 1 for 1 with an RBI single, a walk and a run scored, Jeff Appel was 1 for 1 with an RBI double and also reached base after getting plunked. Jeremiah Fitzgerald was 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI sacrifice fly and Ryan Meyer was 1 for 4.  Sam Baumgartner reached base twice on walks and scored once, Jason Beckett walked once and stole a base and Ryan Carlson also reached with a base on balls.

With the win the Outlaws improved to 2-2

The Outlaws will have an open Memorial day weekend and then resume play in Welcome on June 5th.  It will be a double header home opener with LeCenter at 1:00pm and St. Peter at 3:00.  See you there!
