WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University sophomore left fielder Mark Lane (Tyngsboro/ Tyngsboro HS) has been named the Baseball Player of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.
During a 3-1 week, Lane hit .563 (9-16) with five RBI, three runs scored, two doubles, three stolen bases and a .688 on base percentage. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 5-0 win over UMass-Lowell, batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in an 8-0 win over Pace, and posted his second straight three-hit game and drove in three in an 8-7 win at #16 Franklin Pierce.
Lane, who has hit in six straight games and nine of the last ten, is up to .321 on the season, with his 13 RBI tied for second on the team. His 26 hits include four doubles and a triple.
This is the second year as a starter for Lane, who connected at a .270 clip as a freshman last spring.
Bentley, 11-12 overall after winning seven of its last nine, is scheduled to return to action Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 home game against Franklin Pierce.
Lane will return this summer for his second season with the Chelmsford Merchants.
