Monday August 6/2018 will go down as a night to remember in the town of Langenburg as the newly named Langenburg Legends dethroned the three time defending SESBL Champion Yorkton Yankees by winning back to back games by scores of 5-0 and 8-0 to win the best of 5 series in 4 games.
The series was tied at one game apiece heading into the double header in Langenburg on Monday, with each teams ace pitchers (Kelly Cook and Logan Calanchie) starting the opening game. The Legends got off to a quick start as Tyrel Thorpe's 2 rbi single in the bottom of the first set the tone for the Legends, and it was all the support Cook needed as he cruised the rest of the way to pick up the 5-0 win.
Normally after one game is completed there would be two new starting pitchers ready to go for the 2nd game, but with the stakes so high both pitchers surprisingly got the nod in game 2. Once again the Legends put a few runs up early and took a 3-0 lead after two innings. Just like game 1, that proved to be more than enough run support for Kelly Cook as he just kept on putting up goose eggs on the scoreboard and when all was said and done the Legends won 8-0 and claimed their first SESBL Championship since 2002 where the Langenburg Indians claimed the title that season.
It was a performance for the ages by Cook and the rest of the Legends as they are your 2018 SESBL Champions. Congrats to the Legends and Yankees for putting on a great final series and we look forward to more great senior ball in 2019!
