THUNDER WINS OPENER
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon for baseball, the Thunder won a well played game by both teams with a score of 8-4. After Germantown plated a run in the first, the Thunder came back with three of their own to take a 3-1 lead. Sam Geldnich led off with a single to center and stole 2nd base. After a walk to Joey Spence, Evan Roell hit a drive to left that was misplayed by the leftfielder loading the bases. After George Seaman followed with an rbi groundout, Jake Lavanway ripped a two run single to right center to give the Thunder a 3-1 lead after one inning. The Thunder would plate single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to increase their lead to 5-1 after 3 complete. Germantown scored 2 in the 4th inning to get back in it but the Thunder put up 2 of their own in the bottom of the 5th to increase their lead to 7-3 after 5 innings of play. Each team would score a run in the 6th to get the final score of 8-4.
Sam Geldnich started on the mound and went 3 strong innings allowing 1 run while striking out 4. He was followed by Evan Roell who went 3 strong innings as well allowing 3 runs while also striking out 4. Joey Spence pitched the 7th getting the first two batters before a single and then a deep flyball that Brady Schmidt made a spectacular play on to end the game and give the Thunder their first win on opening day.
The Thunder were lead at the plate by Sam Geldnich who was 2-3 with an rbi and 2 runs scored, Joey spence was 1-2 with a BB and 2 runs scored. George Seaman was 1-2 with 2 rbi and Jake Lavanway was 1-3 with 2 rbi as well. Lucas Karls had the other hit with a double to lead off the bottom of the 6th and he came around to score the teams final run. It was a well played game by the Thunder and lots of kids made nice plays highlited by Brady's game ending catch.
