The Roanoke Stars is a non-profit, highly competitive organization chartered in 1984 by Jan Bruce and Larry Ewing. The Roanoke Stars operate within the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States and also compete in several exposure tournaments including adidas.

Since 1984, the Stars have fielded teams from 10u to 18u, most recently 12u through 16u. Depending upon the interest at each group determines the number of teams at the respective age group. All age groups compete at the Division I AAU level.

Our goal is to offer young female athletes the opportunity to play basketball at a highly competitive level while gaining experiences through teamwork, commitment, and travel.

The Stars have one of the richest AAU girls' basketball traditions in the commonwealth of Virginia, winning between 25-30 state championships at various age groups. The Stars also have sent over 40 teams to AAU National Championship tournaments.

The Stars are also proud of our alumni, with approximately 85 players moving on to play at the college level, most of those earning college scholarships. Some of the alumni include: Sherry Banks-Virginia Tech, Kylee Beecher-Liberty, Tonia Brown-Wake Forest, Brittany Campbell-Liberty, Brittany Cook-Virginia Tech, Alyson Fasnacht-Liberty, Erin Gibson-Virginia Tech, Sarah Hicks-Virginia Tech, Heather Miller-Wake Forest, Jenny Mitchell-Wake Forest, Abby Oliver-Richmond, Joyous Tharrington-Richmond, Lindsey Thompson-UNC Asheville, Khadijah Whittington-NC State, and Katrina Williams-Virginia Tech/Roanoke College.
