The "Eagle Express" was started by G.B. Washburn and Ed Baumann out of their desire to give their sons and others an alternative to recreation basketball. Not to diminish the success of recreation basketball, the goal was to teach good, fundamental basketball and to learn by playing on a more competitive level. Though starting slow, the program gained momentum and had very good success. The roster changed slightly from year to year but the core group of players stayed relatively the same. The results of the program's progress was evidenced by these players making up the core of the 2006-2007 Benajamin Franklin Middle School team that completed an undefeated season. Whether the program continues or not, the ultimate mission of the program seems to have been met. This could not have been achieved had it not been for the parents and friends who have supported this team through their time, donations and especially their cheering at the games.

Mission statement: "The mission of this ball club is to provide an alternative to recreation basketball and give young men an opportunity to play on a much higher level. Through their participation on this team, young men will learn values such as commitment, dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship, and integrity. The hope here is that these values will bleed into other facets of their lives. The ultimate goal is that everyone (players, parents, family members and coaches) will have fun".
