4/4511 Tigers beat Pell City with Walk-Off
Game 1:
The Tigers hosted Pell City in the 2nd round of area games and won
4-3. Pell City jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the 2nd. The Tigers got
one back in the bottom of the inning. AJ Braun doubled and scored on a
sac fly by Adam Smith. The rest of the game was a pitchers duel, with
most innings going three up three down. The Tigers had the bottom of
the 7th to win the game and they never quit battling. With one out, Zac
Marsh got on by error, hustling out a bobbled ball and bad throw.
Daniel James walked. Austin Weckwarth then delivered a walk-off 3 run
Homerun into the scoreboard in right field. A dramatic finish to a
tough game. in addition to Braun and Weckwarth's hits, Alex Luna added a
double and Ben Hall a single. Josh Macurdy went a complete game 7
innings, recording 8 K's for the win.
3/31/11 Tigers sweep series versus Gadsden City
Game 2: The
Tigers traveled to Gadsden and won game 2 of the series 6-5. Gadsden
scored first, getting 3 in the 2nd inning. The Tigers answered back in
the 3rd. Patrick Allen led off with a single. He scored on a single by
Austin Weckwarth. Austin then scored on a single by Josh Macurdy.
After 3, Gadsden led 4-2. In the 4th, AJ Braun walked and scored on
Adam Smith's single. Adam scored on Zac Marsh's double. Tied game at
4-4 after 4 innings. Gadsden took the lead in the 6th inning 5-4. The
Tigers had the top of the 7th to win the game. Garrett Rogers led off
with a walk. Austin singled. Garrett scored on a sac fly be Ben Hall.
Josh hits the game winning RBI single, scoring Austin. Tigers lead 6-5
and hold in the bottom of the 7th for the win. Alex Luna pitched a
complete game, with 3 K's and 6 hits.
Game 3:
In game 2 of the night, the Tigers won 7-3. The Tigers started the
scoring in the 2nd. Matthew Martz had a single and scored on a double
by Brett Blailock. In the 3rd, Paul James had a single and later scored
on an infield error. In the 4th, Nick Bladwin got on with a single and
scored on a single by Zac Marsh. In the 7th, Zac singled and
scored on a double by Paul. With bases loaded, Matthew hit a double
done the left field line, scoring all runners. Will Bishop started on
the mound and went 5 innings with 5 K's and 2 hits. Luke Harris (3 K's)
and Parker Dickson pitched one inning in relief each.
3/29/11 Tigers win first area game versus Gadsden City
Game 1:
The Tigers hosted Gadsden City in the first game of the new Area and
won 12-2. The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd. AJ
Braun got on by error and later scored on a passed ball. Gadsden City
got 2 un-earned runs in the top of the 3rd to lead 2-1. This score held
until the bottom of the 4th. Daniel James led off with a double
followed by a HBP to Austin Weckwarth. Ben Hall then delivered a 3 run
homerun to put the Tigers up 4-2. In the 5th, Alex Luna led off with a
solo homerun. AJ walked and later scored on a fielder's choice. Greg
Schertz was HBP and then Daniel added his own 2 run homerun, for the
third of the game and second in the inning. After 5 innings, the Tigers
led 8-2. Four runs were added in the bottom of the 6th to win by mercy
rule. Singles in the inning were from Matthew Martz, Nick Baldwin
(RBI), Garrett Rogers (2 RBI's), and Patrick Allen. Josh Macurdy went
the full 6 innings, striking out 11 with 4 hits.
3/25/11 - Tigers drop 2 in Sportsmed tourny at Joe Davis
Game
1: The Tigers faced Collierville for the third time in a week and lost
4-0 in extra innings. All scoring in the game came in the 8th inning.
The Tigers just couldn't get it going offensively. HIts for us came
from Ben Hall (triple) and singles by Paul James, AJ Braun, Matthew
Martz, and Daniel James. Alex Luna pitched 7 innings, recording 6 K's
with 3 hits. Kaehler Roth pitched in the 8th and Parker Dickson in the
9th.
Game 2: The Tigers faced Huntsville in the nightcap and
lost 8-2. The Tigers scored first, getting one in the top of the first
inning. Austin Weckwarth and Ben Hall singled. Josh Macurdy walked.
With bases loaded, Greg Schertz drove a ball to deep right field for a
sac fly. In the 4th, Josh led off with a monster homerun in to the wind
over the left field fence to make it 2-0. The Panthers came back in
the 5th and scored 4 to take the lead and eventual win. Offensively,
Austin was 2/4, Ben was 2/3, and Adam Smith added a triple. Josh
started on the mound and worked 4 1/3 innings, recording 9 K's with 4
hits. He was relieved by Parker Dickson and Ben Hall.
3/23/11 - Tigers win 2 versus Lee
Game 1: The
Tigers won the first game 10-4. Austin Weckwarth walked and scored on
Alex Luna's sac fly to start the game. Ben Hall led of the 3rd inning
with a solo homerun. Josh Macurdy walked and scored on AJ Braun's double
to make it 4-3 Lee. The Tigers tied it in the 4th with Zack Marsh
(walk) scoring on Ben's sac fly. In the 6th, Matthew Martz singled and
scored on Daniel James single. In the 7th, Josh led off with a solo
homerun. A 2 RBI single by Zack and a 2 run homerun by Daniel James
ending the scoring at 10-4. Nathan Cornell started on the mound, going 5
innings with 9 K's and 3 hits for the win. Ben pitched 3 innings in
relief.
Game 2:
The second game was called after 4 complete innings due to tornado
warnings with the Tigers winning 13-7. Ben Hall hit a solo homerun in
the first inning. The Tigers added 6 in the 3rd inning. Singles by Alex
Luna and Greg Schertz were the hits for the inning. In the 4th, Brett
Blailock added a 3 run homerun. Luke Harris, Zack Kamerman, and Joey
Hanson handled the pitching.
3/22/11 - Tigers split with Sparkman
Game 1: The Tigers traveled to Sparkman and won the first game 10-4. The Tigers scored 2 in the first inning.
Ben Hall walked and Josh Macurdy hit a 2 run Homerun. The Tigers added
2 more in the third. Singles by Hall, Macurdy, Luna, and Paul James
(RBI) accounted for the runs. 5 runs were scored in the 4th inning.
Singles by Daniel James and Austin Weckwarth along with 3 walks and sac
fly did the scoring. In the 5th, Zack Marsh lead off with a double and
scored on a sac fly. In the 7th, Austin singled and scored on a
fielders choice. Will Bishop started on the mound and went 6 innings
for the win. AJ Braun pitched the 7th in relief.
Game 2: The
Tigers dropped the nightcap 14-13 in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Austin Weckwarth led off the game with a solo homerun. After 3 innings,
the Tigers were down 7-2. In the 4th inning, the Tigers got back 5
runs. Austin led off with a single and Ben Hall walked. Josh Macurdy
then delivered a 3 run homerun. Greg Schertz's double scored two more
in the inning. Sparkman took the lead in the bottom of the inning,
scoring one and making it 8-7. Tigers came back in the 5th. Austin led
off with his 2nd homerun of the game. Josh walked and scored on Alex
Luna's 2 run homerun to it 10-7. Sparkman tied the score in the bottom
of the inning to make it 10-10. In the 6th, Matthew Martz (walk) and
Austin (single) scored on Ben's double to make it 12-10. Sparkman
answered with one, making it 12-11. The Tigers got one in the 7th and
Sparkman got 2 to tie the game again at 13-13. In the bottom of the
8th, Sparkman plated a run to win 14-3. Pitching was handled by Jake
Christenson, Zack Mann, Parker Dickson, and Aj Braun.
3/17-19/11 Tigers travel to Memphis area
Game 1: The
Tigers faced Collierville in game one and won 8-2. The Tigers scored
one in the first inning. Ben Hall walked and later scored on a passed
ball. The scoring continued in the second inning. Singles by Daniel
James, Josh Macurdy, and Paul James (2 RBI's) were the hits in the
inning. After two, the Tigers led 6-0. We added one in the 5th with
Alex Luna doubling and later scoring on an infield error. Will Bishop
pitched a complete game, recording 6 K's with 5 hits and no walks.
Game 2:
The Tigers played Blackman in game two and won 15-5. The game was
stopped in the 5th and the Tigers scored in every inning. Offensively,
Paul James was 2/3 with a 3 run HR, AJ Braun was 2/4 with a triple,
Austin Weckwarth was 2/4 with a double, Ben Hall was 1/3 with a double,
Alex Luna was 2/4 with a double, Zack Marsh was 2/2, Tyler Welch was 1/1
with a double, and Daniel James was 2/2. AJ pitched a complete game,
recording 7 K's with 6 hits.
Game 3: The Tigers faced Dyer
County and got their first lose on the weekend at 10-7. Dyer County
added three in the first inning. The Tigers answered back in the 2nd
inning. Josh Macurdy led off with a double and scored on Alex Luna's 2
run HR. Dyer added 4 runs in the 3rd. The Tigers got one back after AJ
Braun walked and Ben Hall's single moved him to third. He scored on a
sac fly by Josh. In the 4th, Paul James led off with a solo HR. Adam
Smith got on by fielder's choice and later scored on single by AJ.
Final scoring for the Tigers came in the 6th. Zack Marsh hit a double
and later scored on a single by Austin Weckwarth. Jake Christenson
started on the mound. He was relieved by Luke Harris and Ben Hall.
Game
4: The Tigers played Tipton-Rosemark in the 3rd game of the day and
lost 6-5 in extra innings. The Tigers got three in the first inning.
The Tigers loaded the bases with AJ Braun on by error, Ben Hall a
single, and Josh Macurdy HBP. A fielders choice allowed AJ to score and
a single by Nick Baldwin brought Ben home. Paul scored on a passed
ball for a 3-0 lead. Tipton answered back in the 3rd, tying the game
3-3. Tipton added one in the 6th and the Tigers tied it in the 7th.
The Tigers went ahead in the 9th but Tipton scored two in the bottom of
the inning for the win. Nathan Cornell pitched 5 2/3 innings, recording
11 K's, 1 hit, and 6 walks. Parker Dickson pitched in relief,
recording 3 K's over three innings.
Game 5: The Tigers opened
Sat play with St. George and lost 6-3. The only scoring for the Tigers
was in the 2nd inning. Alex Luna led off with a walk followed by Paul
James HBP. Zack Marsh singled scored Alex and Daniel James single
scored Paul and Zack. Kaehler Roth started on the mound, going 4
innings. He was relieved by Ben Hall.
Game 6: The Tigers again
faced Collierville in their last game and lost 6-4. Offensively, Josh
Macurdy was 3/3 with a walk and RBI and AJ Braun 3/4. Ben Hall added an
RBI. Alex Luna started on the mound and went 5 1/3 innings, with 4
K's. He was relieved by Parker Dickson who struck out the two batters
he faced.
3/12/11 Tigers win two versus Bob Jones
Game 1: The
Tigers won the first game 15-5. Garrett Rogers led off with a walk and
later scored on a passed ball. In the 2nd, Nick Baldwin and Eli Walls
walked and scored on a single by Daniel James. In the 3rd, singles by
Ben Hall, Alex Luna, Nick, and double by Daniel accounted for 5 runs.
In the 4th, singles by Paul James, Nick, and Eli and a double by Adam
Smith added another 5 runs. The final scoring was done in the 6th.
Singles by Daniel, Patrick Allen, Matthew Martz, and Zac Marsh added 2
runs to end the game on run rule. Josh Macurdy started the game on the
mound and was relieved by Ben, who picks up the win.
Game 2:
The Tigers won game 2 by a score of 6-3. In the first inning, Patrick
Allen led off with a walk and Zac Marsh doubled. Patrick scored on a sac
fly by Ben Hall and Zac scored on a single by Alex Luna. In the 2nd,
Adam Smith led off with a double and Daniel James was HBP. Both scored
on a 2 run RBI single by Zac. In the 4th, Patrick got on by error and
Zac walked. Both scored on a 2 run single by Paul James. Jake
Christenson started on the mound and went 6 innings for the win. Luke
Harris pitched one in relief.
3/11/11 Tigers split with Huntsville
GAME 1:
The Tigers faced Huntsville for the second time this season and won
6-4. Huntsville scored three in the first inning. The Tigers finally
scored in the 5th when Daniel James hit a solo homerun. In the 6th, the
Tigers went ahead. Josh Macurdy led off with a single. Paul James was
HBP. Paul got into a rundown between first and second, allowing Josh to
score. Garrett Rogers walked. Nick Baldwin delivered with a 2 run
double. Daniel followed with his second homerun of the night, a 2 run
shot. Grissom led 6-3 going into the 7th. AJ Braun issued a lead off
walk. He was relieved by Josh who walked the next batter. The third
batter of the inning got a single to load the bases. A single up the
middle scored one and left the bases loaded, no outs, and a 6-4 game.
Josh then struck out the next three batters to preserve the win. Alex
Luna started the game on the mound and went 5 innings, with 4 K's.
Parker Dickson pitched in the 6th, recording 3 K's versus 4 batters. AJ
faced two with 1 K, and gets the win. Josh pitched one inning with 3
K's for the save.
GAME 2: The
second game of the night was just as exciting as the first. The Tigers
got on the board in the first inning. An error, a HBP, and two walks
gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Panthers answered in the second to tie
the score at 1-1. The Panthers took the lead in the 3rd 2-0 and held
until the 5th. A lead off single by Austin Weckwarth and RBI single by
Paul James tied the game at 2-2. The Tigers had a chance to take the
lead in the top of the 7th, when Austin lead off with a double. He was
stranded at third. The Panthers were able to plate a run in the bottom
of the 7th for the victory. Will Bishop went 5 2/3 innings. He was
relieved by Kaehler Roth and AJ Braun.
Tigers win 3 games in Mid MS Classic using long ball
GAME 1:
The Tigers opened up with Brandon High School and won their first game
14-8. In the first inning, AJ Braun led off with a single and Patrick
Allen walked. After a caught stealing with one on, Ben Hall went deep
for a 2 run homerun. Brandon was able to add a run in the bottom of the
inning and the Tigers led 3-1. The second inning provided the
fireworks. Patrick Homerun. Ben Homerun. Josh Macurdy Homerun. The
Tigers trio combined for back-to-back-to-back homeruns. Tigers up 7-1.
In the fourth, Daniel James led off with a double and later scored on a
passed ball. Tigers up 8-1. In the 6th, Patrick and Ben singled.
Matthew Martz then connects on a 3 run Homerun. The Tigers add three
more in the 7th to end the game. Offensively, Ben was 4/4 with 2 HR's.
Patrick, AJ and Paul James were 2/4, Josh and Daniel were 1/2. Ben
started on the mound and went 3 innings with 4 K's for the win. Zack
Kammerman, Nathan Cornell, Joey Hanson, and Zach Mann each pitched one
inning in relief.

Tigers next faced Warren Central from Vicksburg, MS and won 10-2.
Warren scored one in the 1st inning and one in the 3rd. The Tigers
answered back in the bottom of the 3rd. AJ Braun singled followed by
walks for Ben Hall and Paul James. Matthew Martz strokes a Grand Slam
to put the Tigers up 4-2. The Tigers added one in the 4th with a lead
off walk to Daniel James who scored on a single by Ben. In the 5th,
Paul James walked and later scored on a passed ball. In the 6th, AJ led
off with a walk and scored on Austin Weckwarth single. Ben got on by
error. Josh Macurdy then launched a 3 run homerun for the final
scoring. Josh started on the mound and went 5 innings, recording 4 K's
for the win. Parker Dickson pitches 2 innings in relief with 4 K's and
gets a save.

GAME 3: The
Tigers opened up day 2 with Terry, MS and won 13-5. The Tigers scored 2
in the 1st inning. Paul James walked, moved to 3rd on a double by Ben
Hall, and scored on a passed ball. Ben scored on a RBI ground out by
Josh Macurdy. In the 2nd, Garrett Rogers led off with a walk. A
combination of hits by AJ Braun, Ben, and Alex Luna added 5 runs.
Tigers lead 7-0. Terry added 2 in the 3rd but the Tigers answered.
Tyler Welch led off with a single, AJ walked, and Paul had an RBI
single. Ben walked to load the bases. Josh hit a Grand Slam over the
right center fence. AJ started on the mound and went 3 innings for the
win. Nick Baldwin and Nathan Cornell pitched in relief.

3/2/11 - Grissom wins TOC tournament for third year in a row
The
Tigers hosted Buckhorn in the Championship game of the TOC pre-season
tournament and won 4-3. Buckhorn scored two in the first inning. The
Tigers answered back in the bottom of the inning, scoring 3. AJ Braun
led off with a single followed by Garrett Rogers being HBP. Ben Hall
and Josh Macurdy both hit RBI doubles. The Tigers added one more in the
3rd with a solo homerun by Josh. Offensively, Josh was 2/2 with a walk
and Daniel James was 2/3. Will Bishop started on the mound and went 5
innings with 5 K's. Kaehler Roth and AJ pitched in relief.
2/28/11 - Grissom beats Hazel Green in semi-finals
The
Tigers beat Hazel Green in the semi-finals of the TOC pre-season
tournament 12-2. Hazel Green scored one in the first. The Tigers
answered back with 4 in the 2nd. Alex Luna led off with a double
followed by singles by Paul James and Nick Baldwin (RBI). Several walks
added a couple runs. In the 3rd, Alex and Paul led off with walks. They
were moved over by a sac bunt by Nick. AJ Braun added a 2 RBI single.
Hazel Green added one in the 6th to make the score 6-2. The Tigers made
it a run rule in the bottom of the 6th. Patrick Allen, Ben Hall, Alex,
Matthew Martz, and Daniel James added singles. Offensively, Nick and
Paul were 1/1, Ben and Alex were 2/3. Alex went 4 innings on the mound,
recording 5 hits and 5 K's for the win. Luke Harris pitched 2 innings
in relief, with 3 K's.
2/26/11 - Grissom beats Huntsville in quarter finals
The
Tigers faced their cross town rivals in the quarter finals of the TOC
pre-season tournament and won 3-1. This had the makings of a
championship game prior to start with their ace, Daniel Koger, going
against our ace, Josh Macurdy. Grissom scored first in the 2nd inning.
Garrett Rogers walked and was moved over by a single by Tyler Welch.
Garrett scored on a ball hit by Daniel James. The Panthers tied the
game in the third on a called balk with a runner's on 3rd and 2nd. In
the 4th, Alex Luna doubled and scored on a ball hit by Garrett. In the
5th, the Tigers added one more. Nick Baldwin was HBP and moved to second
on FC by Ben Hall. Nick scored on a single by Josh. Josh went 6
innings, recording 10 K's with 2 hits for the win. Grant Bush pitched
the 7th in relief for the save.
2/24/11 - Grissom drops first game versus Buckhorn
The
Tigers lost their first game versus Buckhorn 5-2 in the second game of
the TOC pre-season tournament. The Tigers scored one in the 1st inning
after Austin Weckwarth (HBP) scored on a sac fly by Ben Hall. The Bucs
tied the game in the 4th at 1-1. The Tigers got the go ahead run in the
5th. Garrett Rogers sac bunt turned into a fielder's choice with a
play to third base. Garrett scored on Eli Walls single to make it 2-1.
The Bucs scored 4 runs in the 6th, all unearned to take the lead and
eventual win. Offensively, Alex Luna and Nick Baldwin were 2/3. The
Tigers used 7 different pitchers, one every inning.
2/22/11 - Grissom wins over Hazel Green
The Tigers beat Hazel Green 6-1 in their first game of the TOC pre-season tournament. The
Tigers scored one in the 1st when AJ Braun doubled and scored on a ball
hit by Ben Hall. Hazel Green scored their only run (unearned) in the
2nd. In the 3rd, Daniel James led off with a double and scored on Hall's
double. In the 5th, the Tigers added three more on RBI doubles from
Hall and Josh Macurdy. Offensively, Braun and Hall were 2/3. Will
Bishop pitched 5 innings, giving up three hits with 5 K's. Parker
Dickson and AJ pitched one inning in relief each, both recording 2 K's.
2/21/11 - Grissom wins 2 on Opening Day in Columbus, GA !!
Game 1: The Tigers opened the 2011 season winning against Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 3-2. The
Tigers scored in the first inning after AJ Braun singled and scored on a
double by Ben Hall. The score was tied 1-1 through 6 innings. We
didn't score again until the 7th, when Garrett Rogers walked and scored
on a Zac Marsh single. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the
8th inning. Paul James was HBP, moved to third by a double by Austin
Weckwarth. Garrett was intentional walked. Alex Luna delivered a single
for the game winning hit. Offensively, Daniel James and AJ were 2/3 and
Ben were 2/4. Josh Macurdy started on the mound and went 6 innings
with 5 K's and 2 hits. Alex Luna pitched 2 innings in relief and picks
up the win.
Game 2:
The Tigers beat Russell County 14-6 in second game. Offensively, the
Tigers were led by Austin Weckwarth 3/5, Paul James 2/2, and Daniel
James 2/3. AJ Braun added a 2 run HR. Grant Bush started and went 4
innings allowing 5 hits and one earned run with 7 K's. Luke Harris and
AJ pitched in relief.
