Victoria Day Richmond Tournament - - Black Eagles suffer Delta blues in 11-1 loss
Posted May 18, 2015
This was supposed to be an relatively easy win over a team we've beaten twice this year. But someone forgot to tell that to Delta. In a superb display of balanced offence and defence, the Delta team outhit, outran, outpitched, out everything over our Black Eagles. Starting with Delta's pitcher Sean Sasaki, whose tricky combination of breaking balls and offspeed pitches handcuffed Eagle batters time and time again. Despite collecting nine hits, including Andy Weir's double, we had little to show for our efforts, leaving 12 runners stranded on base. Meanwhile, the speedy Delta team seemed like they were constantly racing around the bases and getting the hits when they needed them. Perhaps the team took Delta too lightly, after all they defeated Cloverdale in pool play. Is Delta the new Cloverdale? Stay tuned.
In the end, over the three days the Black Eagles played some great baseball, had lots of fun on their first trip to the mainland this year, and got to flex their muscles against some of the best teams in Western Canada. We came out looking pretty good I think. Now it's back to hard practicing as the regular season awaits us for a return trip to the mainland only four days later.
