The 2010 season marks the 7th year for this organization. The Blue Devils started out in 2004- 2005 as the Rockland Pride, then changed to the Suffern Tigers in 06, 07, and the 08 seasons, and are now known as the Suffern Blue Devils.

In 2009 the Blue Devils entered the WRWBL as the youngest franchise in the league. 2010 will be no different.

With added veteran players as well as some significant young talent, the Devils will look to better their 5th place finish and first round playoff defeat in 2009.

Here is a preview of each player on the Blue Devils roster for the 2010 season.

         Johnny Wong
Johnny begins his 3rd season with the Blue Devils and will be a significant member of the starting rotation. His mid to upper 80's fastball complements a wicked Curveball thereby making him effective any time he takes the mound. Wong will be the # 2 Starter for the Blue Devils this summer. In 2009 Wong demonstrated that he could also swing the bat as he recorded a .300 avg.. in 50 at bats. He has speed to burn on the bases, making him a very valuable asset even when he's not on the mound.
              Matt Aquilino
Aquilino enters his 6th season on the team "I've coached Matt for 6 of the 7 yrs. this team has been together and I can say that he is one of the most dedicated players I have ever had. You never hear a word from him about where he's playing, if he's playing or how much he plays” attests Mgr. Vinnie Randazzo. The ultimate team player, Matt is an effective catcher, 1st baseman and will see many games as an EH. In 120 at bats last season Aquilino hit .267 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 16 RBI'S. Equally notable is that Matt does not play baseball in the spring as he has elected to concentrate his efforts on his studies only. In spite of this he is still capable of putting up great numbers. Matt will continue to be a huge threat in the Blue Devils lineup this summer.
    Ryan Fasano

Ryan came to the Blue Devils in 2009 possessing a long resume of success at both the High School and Collegiate level. During his first season with the Blue Devils, Fasano was nothing short of spectacular. On the mound he was 8-1 with a 1.00 ERA while pitching 71 innings. He struck out 85 and walked just 16 batters. In league play, Ryan possessed a record of 6-0 with a .068 ERA. Enough to earn the 2009 League Rookie of the Year, ERA Champion & WHIP Champion. Throw in a Gold Glove for his flawless defense at 2nd base and you have the type of season that most players dream about.

Fasano is effective with the stick as well, batting .306 in 62 at bats last season and making him a valuable player off the bench when he’s not on the mound.  Another ultimate team player, Ryan has a Baseball I.Q that’s off the charts.

Ryan Fasano will once again be the ace of the staff in 2010, providing leadership for the Blue Devils on and off the field.

Frankie Salerno

Entering his first year with the Blue Devils, Salerno was a standout Player for Clarkstown South HS in 2009 earning him All County and All Section Honors.

Frankie's soft hands and quick feet along with some power at the plate will be a huge lift for the Devils this summer.

During the spring 2010 season while playing for St. Thomas Aquinas, Salerno will be displaying his talents for a Spartan team looking to earn a berth in the Division 2 Regional Playoffs.

The Blue Devils, having secured Frankie Salerno along with Vincent Crotty may now have one of the best middle infields in the league

  Vincent Crotty

Another First year player for The Blue Devils, Crotty was a 2009 standout for Suffern HS as a junior, earning him All County and All League honors.

During the 2009 season for Suffern, Crotty hit a team leading .420 recording 29 hits and 15 RBI's to go along with a team Co-MVP award. In addition to his hitting Crotty possesses soft hands and quick feet in the field making the Devils as solid as can be up the middle.

Vince’s unique abilities include a quiet, levelheaded approach to the game, aspects that can't be taught at this level.

The final piece to the Blue Devils middle infield, Crotty will team with Frankie Salerno to give the Devils two of the best fielders in this area.

Vince Crotty will attend SUNY IT in the fall 2010.
       Jared Randazzo

Jared is one of only two players that have endured the wrath of Mgr. Vinnie Randazzo for the past 7 years; Jared will be a huge key to the Blue Devils Pitching staff in 2010. Slotted for the Set up role out of the Bullpen, Randazzo will also start if needed. In 2009 as a freshman at St. Thomas Aquinas he threw 21 innings with a 3.57 ERA as a setup man. Jared has a fastball clocked in the upper 80's along with a hard slider and change up. His no fear approach and willingness to take the ball in any situation makes Jared the ultimate gamer.

With another solid year of college pitching under his belt, the Blue Devil staff is looking for a comeback season in the summer of 2010 from Randazzo
           Kyle Eliasof
Eliasof, along with Jared Randazzo has been with the Blue Devils since the team’s inception in 2004. Kyle possesses the unique ability to play any position on the field. Eliasof has consistently been one of the biggest keys to the Blue Devils past success. Initially starting as the team’s left fielder in 2004, Kyle has played 2nd base, 3rd base and has been the Devils SS for the past 3 seasons. Another team first player, you never hear a negative word out of Kyle. When asked this year to move to another position Eliasof responded by saying "I'll play anywhere to help the team coach". It's refreshing to find a player who puts the team before his ego and Kyle is an example of the type of player that the Blue Devils are proud to have. Numbers alone can't measure Kyle’s value to the Blue Devils and again in 2010 Eliasof will be a crucial part of our team’s success no matter where he plays.

              Joe Depool
Depool is a major off-season pickup for the Blue Devils. Joe is a former Clarkstown South HS star player, graduating in 2009 and has speed to burn. A strong defensive outfielder, boasting a rocket arm and great glove, Depool will be counted on heavily to help fill the huge void that exists with the loss of Nick Barbalato.  While roaming the outfield with skill & confidence, Joe gives pitchers a relaxed feeling on the mound. In the spring of 2010 Joe will be playing college ball at St. Thomas Aquinas and will be helping the Spartans reach the all-important Regional Playoffs.
           Jordan Kolinsky

A pure hitter with a sweet swing Jordan consistently works hard at improving his hitting skills and the results speak volumes.

A former Clarkstown South HS and current Rockland Community College star, Kolinsky will be the Blue Devils everyday first baseman. In 110 at bats for the Blue Devils during the 2009 campaign, Jordan batted .336 with 37 hits, 6 doubles, 2 triples and a grand slam homerun along with 18 RBI's.

Kolinsky will also be counted on to take to the mound as one of the 3 lefty's that bolster the 2010 Blue Devils pitching staff.

The Blue Devils are looking for Jordan to have another great season.
      Joe Ferrara

Another key player for the Blue Devils, Ferrara pitched 33 innings as a starter and relief during the 2009 campaign, posting a 2-2 record with 1 save and an ERA of 2.67. Joe is slated to see a significant increase in innings during the 2010 season as a starter. In 58 at bats during the 2009 season, Joe recorded a .224 batting avg. along with 2 doubles and 6 RBI's. Joe will also see time at 1st base as well as EH.

Another “team first” player with a great attitude, Joe Ferrara is the type of player who makes a coach’s job that much easier. Quoting Mgr. Vinnie Randazzo “Joe is one of the finest players I have ever had the pleasure to coach”.
                    Matt Marotta

A major off-season acquisition, Matt Marotta has signed to play for the 2010 Suffern Blue Devils after winning consecutive championships as a member of the Rockland Cavaliers. In his role as a part time player Marotta will add a huge bat to the middle of the Blue Devils lineup. Coming off a very productive 2009 season with the Cavaliers where he had 18 hits in 47 at bats along with 5 doubles, 1 triple and boasting a .383 batting average, big things will be expected from Matt.

Along with his impressive batting stats is the boost that Matt gives to our pitching staff.  Marotta who will pitch for the ACBL North Jersey Eagles will see some significant innings as our closer. His fastball has been clocked in the low 90’s and is complemented with a hard breaking curve. This addition of Matt Marotta, while only as a part time player, truly provides the Blue Devils much needed depth and seasoned experience.
    Tommy Enright

A 2nd year Player for the Blue Devils Tommy is a left-handed sidewinder.

Last season with the Devils, Enright pitched 30 innings. Being used exclusively out of the bullpen for the Devils he posted a record of 2-1 with 1 save and a 3.60 ERA. This season Tommy will once again be used in middle relief and will be relied on to pitch to that tough lefty in the opposing lineup. Enright has the ability to pitch in 3-4 games a week and provide a big boost to the Blue Devils pitching efforts. Tommy Enright will be pitching for St Thomas Aquinas College this spring.
  JJ Giordano

Giordano enters his 4th season with the Blue Devils. During the 2009 season JJ was 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA while tossing 31 innings as a middle relief pitcher. The Blue Devils staff has slotted Giordano to be a full time starter for the 2010 season. JJ is a member of the Adelphi University pitching staff and is looking forward to a successful spring season. Giordano will be a major part of the Blue Devils rotation this season. At the plate in 2009 Giordano had 49 at bats with 11 hits for a .224 batting average. Also worth noting is that JJ also has tremendous value as a backup infielder and can contribute valuable innings at 2nd, 3rd, or SS. He is also adept at playing all three-outfield positions.

The Blue Devils are counting on JJ to have a tremendous 2010 summer season
         John Cole

At 22 yrs. old, Cole is the oldest player on a Young Blue Devil team and will be counted on for his experience and leadership. John will finish his senior year with The College of St Rose this spring. A four yr. starter at St Rose, Cole displays mature on the field leadership for the Blue Devils.

In 2009 for the Devils Cole recorded 84 at bats with 23 hits and 11 RBI's while batting .274. His defensive skills and rocket arm provides a huge asset to the Blue Devils, complemented by his ability to handle the pitching staff.

The Blue Devils are looking forward to having John continue with the team this season.

Will "The Thrill" Sheehan

"Big Will", the most energetic Blue Devil. Sheehan enters his 2nd full season with the team.

In 2009 Will recorded 111 at bats with 31 hits including 9 doubles 1 triple and 16 RBI's.

Sheehan will team with George Wargo and John Cole as a 3 man tandem behind the plate, thereby giving the Blue Devils possibly the strongest catching unit in the league. Will Sheehan attends Coastal Carolina. The Blue Devils are looking for another great season from him and looking forward to what he can accomplish in 2010.
 "Reserve Player"
       Mike Aviles
    George Wargo

Wargo is back in 2010 for his first full season. During the 2009 season George had 54 at bats with 13 hits including 2 doubles, 2 triples and 6 RBI's. and a .241 Batting average.

Wargo along with Will Sheehan and John Cole will man the "TOOLS OF IGNORANCE" this summer for the devils.

A top-notch defensive catcher, Wargo also possesses a Major League arm behind the plate daring would be base stealers to take a chance!

The Blue Devil Staff is eager and looking forward to having George behind the plate for a full season in 2010.
               Danny Roeser

Roeser returns for his sixth year as a veteran player for the Blue Devils. His skills and ultra positive “team first” outlook make Danny one of the most valuable and dedicated members of the Blue Devils.

Danny ranks in the top 10 in most every Blue Devil all time list.

In 2009 while recording 87 at bats, Roeser had 25 hits and 11 RBI's. A season ending injury caused him to miss the playoffs. During 2010, Danny will team up with a new crew in the outfield, helping to strengthen the Blue Devils and getting the team better prepared for the 2010 season.

Dan Adler (Waiting for photo)

Dan will be playing varsity for Suffern HS this year as a senior. This will be his 3rd season on the varsity roster, being called up to help the Mounties during his sophomore year.

Dan is another huge pick up for the Blue Devils.

With the loss of Bobby Spindler, Adler is slated to see some significant innings at 3rd base this season. Dan will get a workout on the mound as well as he; along with Chris Konkowski will be counted on to help bolster the Devils pitching staff. Adler is one of 3 major pickups this off-season that will help keep the Blue Devils as young as can be.

Dan Adler will attend SUNY IT in the fall 2010.
         Chris Konkowski

A key pick up in the off-season. Chris was a 2009 starter as a junior for Suffern HS, and is a valuable addition in 2010 for the Blue Devils.

A versatile player, Konkowski will see time on the mound as a starter as well as in relief, and will also play the outfield. He will also fill in at 2nd base when needed.

The Blue Devils staff is looking for Chris to make some significant contributions in 2010 and are thrilled to have him aboard this season.

Chris will attend SUNY IT in the fall 2010.

WHY DO WE COACH?

The Star Thrower
There was a man who was walking along a sandy beach where thousands of starfish had been washed up on the shore. He noticed a boy picking the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man observed the boy for a few minutes and then asked what he was doing. The boy replied that he was returning the starfish to the sea, otherwise they would die.The man asked how saving a few, when so many were doomed, would make any difference whatsoever? The boy picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean and said "Made a difference to that one..."
The man left the boy and went home, deep in thought of what the boy had said. He soon returned to the beach and spent the rest of the day helping the boy throw starfish in to the sea....

"Coaches Thought"
Bunting in baseball is as important as blocking in football. In football if you can’t block you won’t move the football, you won’t generate any offense, and you will lose. In baseball, there is a “ho-hum, don’t ask ME to bunt” attitude.

In failing to have a good bunting game players lose the other values of hitting that come from bunting concepts. The threat of the drag bunt keeps the flanks (third and first basemen) playing close to the hitter. This increases the hitter’s advantage to drive the ball past them. In sacrifice bunt situations, the good bunters have the ability to slash hit from a bunting stance, once again taking advantage of the drawn-in infield. The ability to drag bunt, sacrifice bunt and slash hit from a bunting stance will increase every player’s batting average at least 100 points. I did say 100 points! Coaches armed with a good bunting game have the weaponry to attack and score in adverse weather conditions, wind blowing in, cold and wet weather. The bunting game helps you create offense no matter what the occasion or condition.
