(Nov 21)Shaw, Millar, Bantam Chiefs named Players; Team of Year for 2010
Chris Shaw has been recognized in consecutive years as Manitoba's Top Baseball athlete. Chris was awarded Manitoba's dubious honour last night as the 2010 Midget Player of the Year. Chris was recognized in 2009 as Manitoba's Bantam Player of the Year.
Derek Millar follows in the path of his older brother Dennis as having both been named Manitoba's Bantam Player of the Year. Derek took home the hardware edging out South Central's Calvin Dueck who also had a terrific season.
The Bantam Chiefs were selected as Manitoba's High Performance Team of the Year for 2010. Many of the players part of this years team were members of the 2008 PeeWee Chiefs that were recognized as the 2008 High Performance Team of the Year. Since 2008, the Chiefs have compiled a 63-0 regular season record while capturing 3 City Championships and 2 Provincial Championships.

(May 24)PeeWee Chiefs Triumphant; Bantam's Heartbroken - Regina Legasse Tournament
Both Winnipeg South Chief PeeWee & Bantam Chiefs ventured to Regina this May Long weekend to participate in the Regina Legasse Tournament. A Winnipeg sweep was not in the cards, however the PeeWee Chiefs managed to play solid defensive ball throughout the weekend to claim top spot as Tournament Champions. Connor Bowey's blast & Luxon Glor's fine pitching helped lead the Chiefs to a 6-4 final win over the Regina White Sox. The PeeWee Chiefs were forced to play 5 games in 2 days as rain washed out most of Saturday's play forcing the Chiefs to play 3 four-inning shortened games on Sunday.
The Bantam Chiefs were looking to defend their title from last year however they came up short in a thrilling 10-inning affair against the Regina Buffalos in the semi-final. Ironically, it was the Chiefs who defeated the Buffalos in last years final by a score of 5-4 to claim top spot. The Chiefs jumped out to a 2-0 lead and were 1 strike away from going to the final, however a base hit tied the game with the possible winning run gunned down at home plate to send the game to xtra innings. In the top of the 10th, the Chiefs scored one and then another 2 off the blast of a Madison Bowey HR to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the 10th. After an initial K, the Buffalos reached base on a throwing error and walk, before eventually recording the 2nd out on a fielders choice that was knocked down off the face of Matt Dunstone. Down by 1 with 2-out and runners at 2nd & 3rd, the Chiefs were again 1 strike away from victory. A smash deep in the hole at Ss was grabbed by Dunstone who tried to make a valiant throw to 1st for the final out and win, however the ball came up short by a few feet and was unable to be scooped up at 1st resulting in both runners scoring to send the Buffalos to the final.
(May 2) Gorgeous April brings Frowns to May - Opening Day Cancelled
Both Winnipeg South Chief PeeWee & Bantam Home Openers have been postponed for today after a terrific April of warm, dry weather, has once again brought rain, cold & a chance of overnight flurries to the start of the season and May. The Bantam team will now open the season on the road Wednesday vs. Bonivital (weather permitting) and then open at home on Friday, May 7 vs. North.
(Nov 16) Chris Shaw Honoured as Manitoba Bantam Player of the Year
Congratulations to Chris Shaw, as Chris was honoured on Saturday evening at the Manitoba Baseball 2009 Awards Banquet in Brandon as the 2009 Bantam Player of the Year.
(July 26) Bantam/PeeWee Chiefs Winnipeg's Best - Win Championship in Thrilling Fashion
The Bantam Chiefs faced off against the North Wpg. Pirates for the 3rd and final deciding game of the WABA Championship Crown Sunday afternoon at Charleswood Park. After completing the season 24-0, the St. James A's played to tough games against the Chiefs, however solid pitching & defense led the way through the series. The Championship Final against North was all about home field advantage as all 3 series games were won by the home team. The Pirates elected to wear their Home Red's on Sunday on the Chiefs home turf and came one pitch short - a one on, two-out blast by Madison Bowey in the bottom of the 6th to lead the Chiefs to a 7-5 victory. The game witnessed 6 lead changes with Nelson Quark pitching the final 2-innings of scoreless ball to record the win. A key defensive double play to start the 6th by Brendan Dyck provided a spark for the Chiefs that seemed to have turned the momentum.
The PeeWee Chiefs were also left to battle the Pirates that would crown them champions as well, as they continued their 8-8 tie game in extra innings from Friday night. Having won Saturday night decisively, the Chiefs and Pirates played a scoreless 9th inning, before the Pirates scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th to take a 10-8 lead. However the Chiefs battled back to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th to win consecutive City Championship titles at this age group.
(July 12) Bantams Chiefs Defeat A's En Route to 24-0 Reg. Season Record
The Bantam Chiefs claimed top spot in League play a few weeks ago, however the opportunity to record a perfect 24-0 mark during regular League play was all that remained at stake Sunday evening versus the A's. Many of the Bantam Chiefs were part of last years PeeWee squad that went 20-0 in League play, so some of the players have been a part of a 44-0 record in League play the last two season.
Noah Block & Cody Groen pitched their 1st innings of the season to ensure that every Bantam Chief saw mound action during the course of the season. Additionally, both pitchers did not allow an A's run.
The Chiefs will await the winner of the A's/Pioneers series and open at home next Sunday evening in the Playoff Semi-Finals.
