The Grey Sox are headed to the South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell! The Grey Sox locked in their bid with a 9-3 victory over the Elk Point Stags in the District Tournament. The Sox breezed through their first game toppling Renner by a score of 19-9. However, after a 12-2 loss against Garretson, the Grey Sox had to battle their way out of the losers bracket to clinch the final State-Line League spot. The Grey Sox go into the State Tournament with an 8-8 record. Josh Gross, Joe Millar, and Brooks Little of the Elk Point Stags have been exciting pick up players for the Sox. These three players are sure to make the Grey Sox lineup even more dangerous. The Grey Sox will open up the first round of the State Tournament on Saturday, August 6, against Dell Rapids PBR. Gametime is set for 7:30 @ Cadwell Park in Mitchell, SD.
The Grey Sox dropped another game Tuesday night to the Irene Cardinals. The Grey Sox traveled to Irene and just couldn't manage to put up any runs. Kyle Nemec's bat was hot as he record three hits. Cody Schreiber and Tyler Williamson both had two hits. Grant Leuders had one hit with a towering solo homerun in the seventh inning. The Grey Sox will be back in action as they start District Tournament play Wednesday, July 20 at Prentis Park. Game time and opponent are TBD.
The Grey Sox dropped a game to their intra-city rival Vermillion Red Sox on friday. The Grey Sox just could not get the bats going recording zero runs on just three hits. Neamunn would pick up the win for the Red Sox going the distance recording 15 strikeouts. Tim Ross would get the loss for the Grey Sox. The Grey Sox will be back in acton Tuesday, July 12 as they travel to Irene to take on the Cardinals. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
The Vermillion Grey Sox fell to the Akron Rebels 4 – 1 in Vermillion Wednesday night in State-Line League action. The host Grey Sox could only muster seven total hits against the strong pitching performances of Derrick Appley (win) and Tyler Stuerman (save) for the Rebels. Michael Kendall took the loss for the Grey Sox despite allowing only seven hits in seven innings of work. The Rebels were paced offensively by Tyler Stuerman and Jessie Hereen with two hits each while Cory Taggart and Cody Schreiber led the Grey Sox with two hits apiece.
The Grey Sox fell to 6 – 4 overall and 6 -2 in State-Line League play. The Vermillion Grey Sox will host their intra-city rival Vermillion Red Sox at 7:30 Friday at Prentis Park.
The Vermillion Grey Sox would pick up another win Wednesday night as they ten-runned Canton in seven innings. The win moves the Grey Sox to 6-3 overall with a 6-1 record in State-Line league play. The Vermillion defense would not have to do much work as Cody Schreiber had a dominating performance on the mound going all seven innings recording 17 strikeouts and giving up a meager four hits. The Grey Sox bats were led by Grant Leuders with four singles, Michael Kendall with two singles, and Tim Ross with a big three run homerun. Cantons offense would be led by Thad Meister with two of the four hits on the night. Devin Skiles would get the loss on the hill for Canton.
