Posted May 23/10 - Wildcats Hammer the Dutchmen on Sunday, 5/23/10
There's really no other way to say it. The Wildcats made the New Germany Dutchmen their umm, ahhhh, "Dutchmen", on Sunday, defeating them by a score of 19-4 in 7 innings.

Matt Wroge started on the hill for the Wildcats today. Wroge threw well and picked up the "W", but struggled late in his outing due to possible fatigue. Fatigue is a perfectly normal excuse when you're only 20 years old ;) Wroge also managed to rope a nice double to right field, contributing to his cause.

The real big news today though, was the Wildcats bats. They really got a-going! The Cat's were powered by Cullen Schultz and Josh Anthony. Cully jacked one to right-center field and hit the semi-trailer parked beyond the fence. Cully also flied out on the warning track in Right Field. I personally think Cully was simply trying to show off to his bride to be (in less than 2 weeks), who just happened to be in attendance. Josh Anthony also homered to Right Field and the ball was retrieved when the Wildcats showed up at "Down South" after the game.

Ben Machemehl pitched 2 tidy innings for the Wildcats as well. The Wildcats though, were deeply concerned by the three shades of "red" that Benny turned while pitching today. What was up with that? I've never seen anything quite like it. Benny...Make sure you watch the un-edited version of "Major League" by the Plato game. No excuses! If you need to borrow the movie, email me and you can swing by and pick it up.

Last but not least..Danny "Dalton" LaMott. Danny made his triumphant return to the diamond this afternoon after an almost 2-year hiatus. Danny had off season shoulder surgery performed by renowned Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Florida this past winter. Danny is completely hoping for the same results as the kid in the movie "Rookie of the Year" had. Wildcats brass were concerned that they'd never see #21 don the Wildcats "baby blues," but Danny quieted those concerns today. Danny struck out the 1st batter he faced in almost 2 years and managed to get the next two batters to fly out to end the game. Welcome back, #21!

And now...The Game Awards...I've only got three from today's game. The combination of the heat, no lunch and a few beers after the game have joined forces to block my post game wrap-up creativity.

  • "The D*ckhead Opposing Fan of the Game Award" goes to the New Germany Fan who drives the grey Dodge Ram truck. You know who you are. Keep sucking, pal! J/K...We're only messing around with ya...We love it when people heckle us when we're up by 10 runs! (Note: He was nowhere near as bad as that dude from Blue Earth during last year's state tourney).
  • The "Packed Bar on a Sunday Afternoon Award" goes hands down, to "Down South." Never seen that many people in a local bar on a Sunday afternoon! For that, we'll "pimp" the "Down South" Facebook page here. Check it out by searching for "Down South" in the Facebook search option.
In closing, on behalf of the entire Wildcats team (at least those of age), we'd like to thank the New Germany Dutchmen for the cold beer offered up after the game. It was much needed after today's sauna. While the Wildcats look forward to the 2010 Class B Challenge (but not the "no beer after games policies" they seem to employ), we enjoy the friendly rivalries and hospitality that fellow CRVL teams offer. Long live "The Crow!"
