Posted Jul 28/09 - Wildcats take Game 1, 9-3, over the Dutchmen

The Wildcats downed the Dutchmen 9-3 tonight, taking Game 1 of a 3 game set. Continuing their torrid July hitting pace, the Wildcats struck for 4 runs in the 1st inning, and never looked back.

Tony Kley led the Wildcats with 8 strong innings pitched (striking out 86) and had a marginal 4 for 4 night at the plate, including 2 doubles. Steve "Flu" Bisping came on in the 9th to mop up what was left to the Dutchmen. "Flu" always claims he pitches better with runners on base, so Flu promptly gave up a lead-off triple in the 9th. Backing up those claims, "Flu" shut the rest of the Dutchmen down (and probably the Blue Note later) and didn't allow the run to score.

I really wish there was more to write about, but in my humble opinion, the game wasn't all that entertaining. Alright, alright...The truth of it was, I was experiencing a mosquito spray "high" during the game and blacked out during a portion of it. Seriously, where did that spray come from? That's some potent stuff! Bring that with to the Blue Note after Thursday night's victory!

Getting back to not being much to write about...Because I spend almost every game watching from the bench, I see things...Baseball things...The Dutchmen pitchers had trouble throwing strikes which led to walks and more walks. When strikes were thrown, the Wildcats made them pay. The game is simple when played right and the Wildcats did just that Tuesday night. Sometimes writing about a well played game can be boring. Tonight was one of those nights.

Onto the "game awards"....

"AVN Quote of the Night" goes to......Matt Wroge. Wroge's quote came during the Dutchmen pitching struggles late in the game. Wroge hollered, "Make him come" to an unidentified Wildcats batter after the Dutchmen pitcher threw 4 consecutive balls. Awkward, I know!

"CDC Quarantine Award" goes to Chauncey Herbolsheimer.  Carlos is suffering the effects of Swine Flu/Monkey Pox/Bird Flu/Pink Eye/Mono but still managed to show up and to cheer the Cats' on to victory. ***NOTICE*** The CDC is diligently working on a vaccine in order to get Curtis all cured before Thursday's game. If you see the "Outbreak" monkey, do not attempt to capture yourself. Call Curtis.

"The Maaco Auto Body Repair Award" goes to Tony Kley.  Tony was pitching a gem, but then got bored. The Wildcats were up 5-0 at that point and the game was essentially half over. Tony decided to toss a meat ball to a Dutchmen batter, just for fun. Much to Coach Schultz's shagrin, the Dutchmen batter made him pay, "jacking" a 3-Run bomb off of the scoreboard. All I know is, that scoreboard got rocked and is likely sporting a nice dent today. "Uh-Oh, better call Maaco!"

Gotta Run.....See ya Thursday night.
