Posted May 11/13 - Thunder Walk Off a Winner!

In a game played in the cold Friday Night, the West Bend Thunder orchestrated a furious rally and walked off the field with a 6-5 victory over the Sheboygan Diamonds at the West Bend Little League Fields.  The game started as a pitching duel between the Diamonds and the Thunder.  Joey Pettit started and worked 3 strong innings allowing no runs and only one hit and no walks.  The score remained scoreless until the 4th inning when the Diamonds erupted for 4 runs off Gavin Hinckley to take the lead.  The Diamonds would add another tally in the top of the 6th to forge ahead 5-0. Ayden Spykstra struck out the final 2 batters in the 6th to prevent the lead from getting any larger and allow the Thunder a chance.

With only one hit in the game heading to the bottom of the 6th, things looked bleak.  True to the Thunder slogan of Effort, Heart, and Execution, the Thunder never quit.  Lukas Broske lead off the inning with his, and the Thunder's 2nd hit of the game.  Aftr a steal of second and a long flyout, Christian Ketter laced an RBI double down the right field line, finally getting the Thunder on the board and some life in the dugout. 2 walks in a row loaded the bases and a 3rd and 4th walk plated 2 more runs to make it 5-3 after the 6th.  Lukas Broske, making his Thunder debut worked around some shaky Thunder defense, strikng out the side and keeping the score at 5-3.

In the bottom half of the 7th, leadoff hitter Sam Lemler lead off and lined a rocket down the third base line and Gavin Hinckley walked to start the inning.  With two runners on and two strikes on him, Joey Pettit delivered a clutch single to load the bases.  Lukas Broske followed with an RBI groundout to make the score 5-4 and put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. CJ Henschel stepped to the plate and like a magician with his wand, executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score Hinckley, and sending Pettit to third with two outs. With the count 2-2, Pettit got a big lead and when the pitch went in the dirt, Pettit stormed home with the game winner, allowing the Thunder to walk off a winner.  WIth the win, the Thunder improved to 1-1.  The Thunder have a big week ahead with a League game on Thursday and the Appleton Tournament over the weekend.  Congrats to Lukas Broske who made his Thunder debut, going 2-3 at the plate and picking up the win on the mound.
