Posted May 23/11 - The Lady Rain Pull Through In OT

Jacksonville, FL- Miami Rain gets its second win of the season on the road as they defeat the Florida Knighthawks 81-76 in overtime. The Lady Rain came out swinging as they outscored the Knighthawks 16-6 in the first quarter. LaShonda Gaines hit two three-pointers followed by Alysha Harvin and Kiesha Alexander in, what looked like, a shooting clinic. But the second and third quarters went to the Lady Knighthawks as they went on a 41-25 run. Miami Rain was down 31-47 at the start of the fourth quarter, and it looked like they would take their first loss of the season, but they fought back with Melissa Dalembert and Telisha Quarles leading the charge. Melissa collected her second double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and snatching 11 rebounds. Telisha came alive in the fourth quarter scoring 8 straight points, including a game tying “And-1.” Late in the quarter the Rain and the Knighthawks traded fouls and free throws as both teams were in the penalty. Christina Rozier jumped over Florida’s post players to collect an offensive rebound with eight seconds remaining in regulation which lead to a Miami Rain timeout. Unfortunately, the Rain did not make a basket from the play designed by Coach Patterson, and the game went into overtime. Proving to be too much for the Florida Knighthawks, the Miami Rain, lead by Kiesha Alexander and Lashonda Gaines with 4 points a-piece, pulled off the “W.” Congratulations to the Miami Rain on a nail-biting victory. Now they will prepare to take on hometown rivals Ft. Lauderdale Lions next Saturday.
