The Charleston Lowcountry Fire recognized Special Olympics Day on May 14, 2011. The Fire took $1 from each of the 51 tickets that were sold that day and contributed it towards the local Special Olympics Organization.
The Charleston Lowcountry Fire received a "Thank You" Letter from the President/CEO of the South Carolina Special Organization, Barry S. Coats. The contribution permitted Special Olympic Athletes the opportunity to participate in a Bocce Competition. "Your generous support...was received on June 16, 2011 and has helped Special Olympics South Carolina improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities in a direct and tangible way. When Special Olympics athletes walk into a gymnasium...they are transformed. No longer framed by negative stereotypes and misconceptions, they see themselves as champions. Those around them are changed, too, seeing--often for the first time--athletes and recognizing there is so much more they can do. Thank you for your support of this wonderful population!"
The Fire says, "WAY TO GO SPECIAL OLYMPICS!"
