Riels 1 vs Raiders 3
Good evening Hockey Fans! The series is tied 1-1.
Great goal tending on both sides of the ice. Raiders continued where they left off from game #2 Friday night by working hard and doing their work on specialty teams. Raiders forward, Matt Zolinski opened the scoring at 3:40 of the first with assists going to Zaz Oleksiw and Trenton Fuerst. Riels all-star defenseman, Sean Christensen tied up the game at 10:11 with assists going to Stanislav Izvekov and Brett Charette. The Riels penalty kill unit was very good in the first period stopping the Raiders 0-2. Raiders outshot the Riels 14-7 after the first.
The Riels had four power play chances in the second period, but nothing to show for it. The Riels had a lot of chances to take the lead early, but Raiders net minder Fiebelkorn was solid in the pipes keeping the Riels off the board. Raiders scored the lone goal of the second period on the power play when Mike Lazo shot the puck from the point and somehow it went in past Ryan Brown to make it 2-1 Raiders after two. Nik Lynam had the assist. The Raiders lead was 2-1 after two periods. Riels out shot the Raiders 10-6 in the second. Riels net minder Ryan Brown was also solid in the pipes throughout both periods.
Raiders were hanging on to their one goal lead halfway through the period. Raiders took advantage of a neutral zone turnover and Nick Matthew came down the right side and blasted a hard low shot that somehow trickled through the pads of Riels net minder Ryan Brown at 12:40 of the third period to make it 3-1 Raiders with assists going to Nicholas Loeppky and Mike Lazo. That would seal the deal for the Raiders and take a 2-1 lead in the series. Raiders outshot the Riels 11-7 in the third and 31-24 overall.
The next game is Tuesday night, April 8th at Mosienko Arena. Game 5 is Saturday night back at Southdale Arena at 7:30 pm.
