Posted Mar 27/14 - Hawks blanked in Game 3 by Riels

Semi-Final Game #3

March 25, 2014

Riels 4 vs  Hawks 0

FIRTST PERIOD

Riels continued their ways with the Hawks in game #3 showing hard work and great team defense.  It all starts from the back end, Kyle Vandemosselaer who has been outstanding and full of confidence.  Riels defensive core is solid throughout.  Riels were 2 for 4 on the power play tonight.  After missing the first round of playoffs against the Twins due to an injury, Matt Wilson scored to open the game at 7:11 with assists going to Russell Trudeau and Mark Sharman.  Then at 14:18, it was Wilson again gaining the Hawks blue line, undressing the Hawks defenseman and walking in all alone and beating Fleury to make it 2-0 Riels.  Assists on the play went to the Mike Riffel and netminder Kyle Vandemosselaer.  Riels out shot the Hawks 13-10 after the first period.

SECOND PERIOD

The Hawks could not really get things going.  They might of out shot the Riels in the second 14-10, but alot of shots were from the perimeter.  That tells you how good the Riels defensive game was.  The Hawks were 0 for 4 on the power play.  Full credit to the Riels net minder Kyle Vandemosselaer for standing his ground and giving no rebounds.  Riels continued to press.  At 5:39 of the second with Riels on the power play, Russell Trudeau snapped a shot from the point beating Stuart Fleury top cheddar with assists going to Travis Ziprick and Brett Charette.  Riels up 3-0, which ended the scoring for the second period.

THIRD PERIOD

Riels veteran defenseman Brock Bram left the game with 6 minutes in the second period when he was hit from behind that put him out with a separated shoulder.  We don’t know the extent of the injury, but the Riels players, staff and fans sure wish Brock a speedy recovery.  Brock Bram has been playing great hockey for the Riels lately and its sad to see him go down with an injury like that.

There was only one goal scored in the third period again on the power play.   Brian Dies finished off a nice nifty move beating Fleury to make it 4-0 Riels with assists going to Russell Trudeau and Stanislav Izvekov.  The shots on goal were 11-11 after the third period.  The Hawks outshot the Riels 35-34 overall.  Riels net minder, Kyle Vandemosselaer shut the door on the Hawks stopping all 35 shots.  Great game Kyle.

Riels now take a commanding 3-0 series lead into the Hawks Arena, Eric Coy on Friday, March 28th at 7:30 pm.  Come cheer the Riels to Victory.
