Riels 11 vs Jets 2 Tues. Feb. 4, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

Riels opened the scoring at 2:55 when Artur Raevskiy redirected a shot from the point from Royce Nixdorf and Mark Sharman.  Jets scored at 5:11 when Jeremy Brooks beat Ryan Brown to tie it.  After that lone Jet goal, Riels took it to them scoring 4 more unanswered goals.  First Michael Gorrie came across the blue line and snapped a beauty top shelf beating Luke Sirant for his 25th of the season with assists coming from Glen Young and Travis Ziprick.  Then league leader Brett Charette scored his 24th of the season from Russell Trudeau and Sean Christensen at 9:14.  Riels kept on pressing now on the power play.  Brian Dies scored his 26th of the season on a perfect one-timer blast beating Sirant with assists going to Izvekov and Wilgosh.  Then a minute and a half later at 12:40, Stanislav Izvekov blasted a shot past Sirant his 10th of the season with help from Artur Raevskiy and Michael Gorrie.  That was all for Jets net minder Luke Sirant.  Shawn Gerbinski came in for the remainder of the first and shut the door.  Riels lead was 5–1 after the first.  Riels out shot the Jets 24–9.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets came out in the second trying to intimidate the Riels to get them of their game.  Riels kept playing when Chris Prejet scored his 6th at 10:47 on a breakaway beating Gerbinski on a nice shot.  Prejet was fed a perfect pass from Ryan Wilgosh and Sean Christensen.  The Jets got one back on the power play at 14:01 when Johnson scored his 21st of the season from Philip and Lussier.  That made it 6-2 Riels.

Riels domination continued when 20 seconds later, Brian Dies scored his 27th with assists coming from Brett Charette and Michael Gorrie.  Riels forward Stanislav Izvekov blasted his 11th of the season at 16:40 with an assist going to Skyler Eastman.  That ended the second period 8-2 Riels.  Jets out shot Riels 12-11.

THIRD PERIOD

Riels put one by Gerbinski early in the third at the 31-second mark when Skyler Eastman scored his 6th of the season with hard work in the Jets zone with helpers coming from Sean Christensen and Brad Kutzak.  The Jets continued playing physical and ended up sitting in the box.  At 11:45, Brad Kutzak scored his first of the season on a tap inpass on the power play from Brian Dies and Brett Charette.  That made it 10-2 Riels.  Riels finished off the scoring rampage at 17:20 when Artur Raevskiy drilled a low shot beating Gerbinski for his 13th of the season and second of the night with an assist coming from Chris Prejet.  Riels out shot the Jets 41-30 overall.  Ryan Brown stopped 28 of the 30shots for the Riels.  That was the new franchise record for Riels for wins in one regular season of 33.  Riels have six more games to go.  Congratulations to all the players and coaching staff for that great achievement.
