Posted Jan 19/14 - Knights Knocked Off by Riels

Riels 4 vs Knights 3   January 14, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

Knights and Riels played a close checking 1st period as there were no penalties and no scoring.  Knights outshot the Riels 11-6.

SECOND PERIOD

Knights drew 1st blood at the 3:27 mark when Daniel Giles scored his 7th of the season with assists coming from Matt Lumsden and Cam Kilpatrick.

Riels killed off 2 penalties midway through the period.  Knights forward Matt Lumsden scored his 9th of the season at 12:37 to make it 2-0 with help coming from Daniel Giles and Cody James.

Riels never quit; they kept on shooting the puck at the Knights net minder Bryan Tait who came up big.   Finally at 17:53 on the power play, Riels veteran forward Brian Michiels scored his 20th goal of the season with assists coming from Glen Young and Michael Gorrie.  That sparked the Riels.  Less than a minute later, Glen Young beat Tait for his 14th of the year with an assist coming from Brian Michiels at 18:41.  That ended the period deadlocked at 2-2.  Riels outshot the Knights 12-9.

THIRD PERIIOD

Riels started off the 3rd period knapping, when a bad goal was scored by the Knights at 25-second mark as the puck was tapped in by Thomas Petrick and assist went to Kossack and Lee.

Riel’s Russell Trudeau sniped his 27th goal of the season on the power play with assists coming from Brian Dies and Brett Charette at the 2:15 mark.  That evened up the game again at 3-3.  Both teams continued to press but the goalies kept on shutting the door.  At the 9:21 mark, Riels forward Russell Trudeau made some beautiful moves in the Knights zone, found defenseman Brock Bram coming down and fed him a perfect pass for a one timer.  That was Bram’s 1st goal of the year and ended up being the game winner.  Riels hung on to win 4-3.  Riels outshot the Knights 9-6 in the 3rd and 27-26 overall.
