Our Norfolk Xpress 11U girls participated in the Spotsy Sting Shootout in Spotsylvania, VA on January 23, 2010. We participated in the 12 U division.  The girls had a great time at the shootout winning 2 games and losing 1 (in overtime). These games gave our girls awesome experience and confidence as they prepare for Super Regionals March 5, 2010.

Our day started off with a game against the Cap City Ballerz (CCB) 12U from Richmond, VA. We jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the 1st half but allowed CCB to regain the lead at the half. After half-time our defense came alive and created many turnovers to spark a comeback. Once we regained the lead there was no looking back as we defeated CCB 35-30.

Our next game was against the Richmond Timberwolves 12U also from Richmond, VA. The game went back and forth with neither team getting a big lead. Down by 4 in the final 2 minutes we were able to tie the game up by going to a full court press and forcing some turnovers. With 9 seconds left in regulation we had the ball with the game tiec up. After a timeout we took the ball inbounds and were not able to get the shot off in time. In overtime our girls fought hard for the 4 minute additional period. Down by 2 with 00.5 seconds left we only connected on 1 of 2 free throws and fell to the Timberwolves 31-30 (OT).

In our final game of the evening against our host Spotsy Sting, our girls were eager to finish the day with a winning record. We took the lead early in the first half, and never looked back.  Our girls were tired, they had played hard all day, and were ready to go home with a win.  In a very physical game our girls defeated the Spotsy Sting 33-24 to make the ride home victorious.  Great job Norfolk Xpress 11U!
