Posted Apr 29/14 - Knights Start the Season Hot!

The Knights opened the season with a bang on Sunday... and that is putting it lightly. Tip of the cap goes to the Miners for battling all day long and we know that is not how this season is going to go. Seeing how it was so hot in April, the Kentucky baseball season is a long one and there are many games left to be played.

Buckle yourself in cause we have a lot of stats to go over. Disclamer: Matt Roberts expected people to watch tutorials on how to work GameChanger on his phone. Nobody watch a single thing, which is exactly what I expected. Get real and get a book, baseball just is not ready for the new age yet. Also who do you think you are assigning out homework for baseball, this ain't some 7th grade exam. Newsflash I didn't do my homework back then and I am not going to do it now.

Matt Roberts totally redeemed himself after the Gamechager fiasco and gave the Knights the quality start that they needed. He went seven innings only giving up two earned runs, walking three, striking out one and only giving up 6 hits to the Miners on the day. The bullpen finished off the Miners lead by Jesse Lane who closed out the 9th by striking out the side.

Offensively the Knights exploded on opening day giving the decent sized crowd at the field a good show. The Knights wasted no time scoring 13 runs in the first three innings. Matt Youngquist lead the charge going 3-3 with two doubles, three Rbi's, and three runs scored all in the first three innings. Mike Speck also chipped in for three hits and three walks which means he reach base an amazing six times in one game; that has got to be a record of some sort. (and way to many 3's) Evan Hackney hit a bomb, yeah we have a power hitter finally. That bomb however, was very controversial but from my angle that was a homer for sure. Overall 12 different hitters picked up their first hit of the season for the Knights in route to a nice win.

Other notables from the game, Pat Elzinga showed up to the game with probably the sweetest mustache the league has to offer, Josh Watts tried to steal home, Mike Roberts and Youngquist lead the team in fines with 2 dollars apiece owed to the team, and somehow in the score book on the Knights GameChanger account says the Knights lost a run in the 9th inning... I did not know that was physically possible. Somebody will be getting fined a dollar for that.

Thanks for reading and supporting local baseball.
