Posted Mar 20/10 - No Joy in "Pirateville"

After opening up a 6-3 lead over Mt. Rainier, Highline had a disasterous 5th inning coughing up 12 runs and falling to the host Rams 16-8. It was the first game of the year for Highline which opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the third. Jacob Wydick got things going with a two strike single to left. Kasey Daw reached on a fielders choice and Ryan Brett cracked a double to  plate the first Pirate run of 2010. Jonny Locher came up with a 2 RBI single later in the inning. MR responded with 2 runs in their half of the inning to make it 3-2. The fourth inning saw Highline get doubles from Caleb Ramirez, Lee Carson and Luke Werle which produced three more runs. The Rams retaliated with a solo homer from Taylor Gaucher in the bottom of the frame shortening the lead to 6-4.  The Pirates went quietly in the top of the fifth and Mt. Rainier went off in their half sending 16 players to the plate. Three Pirate hurlers were used in the inning giving up 10 hits and 12 runs. Highline had several chances to get out of the inning but could not come up with a "big play" all game long.  Statistical leaders were Ryan Brett who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs. Jonny Locher was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Lee Carson went 2-for-4.  Highline's next action comes Monday with a 3:30 game at Kennedy.
