Posted Apr 13/12 - Monarchs Too Much For Woodland

The Mark Morris Monarchs showed why most publications have them ranked among the top ten teams in the state of Washington, sweeping the host Woodland Beavers in a league double header last Friday.

In game one, the Monarchs jumped out to 6-0 lead before the Beavers struck back to cut the lead to 6-5 after four innings.  In the fourth, four straight Woodland singles from Tanner Huddleston, Cy Whitmire, Bryce McQuivey, and Colton Lucas, along with a few walks, allowed the Beavers to plate four runs and get back into the ballgame.  That was as close as they would get however, as the Monarchs hit a grand slam and pulled away for the 13-5 victory.

In game two, a lightning delay caused a stoppage of play, but Mark Morris kept momentum and cruised to an 8-0 win.  The Beavers were led offensively by Trevor Huddleston, who was 2-2, and the only Beaver with multiple hits.  Dustin Schimelpfenig, Kelly Wenger, Cy Whitmire and Troy Wasson also added hits for Woodland.  With their singles, Whitmire extended his hitting streak to five games, while Wasson extended his to four games.  During his current streak, all league games, Whitmire is 8 for his last 16.
