Posted Mar 22/12 - Beavers Beat Ridgefield 13-9
The Beavers came out swinging in their opener against rival Ridgefield, collecting 11 hits on the day in route to a 13-9 non-league win.  Eight different Beavers reached base and seven different players scored as the Beavers used a four run third-inning to take a 7-5 lead and a six run fifth-inning to break the game open at 13-7.  Cy Whitmire, Bryce Mcquivey and Kelly Wenger each had multi-hit games and three RBIs to lead the Beavers offense, and were aided by a hit apiece from Tanner, Trevor, and Hunter Huddleston, with the latter reaching base all four plate appearances.

On the mound, freshman Trevor Huddleston got the start and went the opening two innings, allowing five runs, three earned, while striking out three.  Cy Whitmire was strong in relief, pitching two and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs, and striking out three.  Following Whitmire was Tanner Huddleston, who got the win after going one and one-third innings and giving up two earned runs.   After Huddleston walked the lead-off hitter in the seventh, Hunter Huddleston came on to strike out the first batter he faced before inducing a 1-6-3 double play to end the game.

With the win, the Beavers open the season 1-0, while the Spudders fell to 1-3.  Woodland next travels north to take on Montesano on Friday.
