Posted Dec 4/13 - Cap City Wins Cranberry Classic in Back and Forth Battle with ABD Nevada.

The championship game was a tale of two halves for the Capital City Black Sox, as they faced off with ABD Nevada.

Cap City jumped out on offense and got great starting pitching from Jordan Barchus; leading them to an 8-0 lead heading into the 4th. Doubles by Hunter Spriggs, Roger Ingram Jr., Jack Bauer, and a huge triple from Jared Bell led the offense. Cap City was one out away from inflicting the mercy rule in the top of the 4th, when a passed ball, and a two run error let ABD right back in the game. Capital City couldn’t turn the tide, and ABD followed up the next inning scoring four runs, to close the gap to a very uncomfortable 8-7 going into the 7th. With Jesse Hilyard on the mound, and a runner on first, with two outs; the Black Sox saw Josh Palmquist make a diving backhand play up the middle, all while reaching back to get the force out, and end the game. Although it was much closer than it needed to be, you have to give credit to ABD for playing all seven innings, and battling all the way back. It was a great start to the winter; the Black Sox will be in San Jose this next weekend, playing in the “Polar Bear Classic”. Look for updates on the website, or follow us on gamechanger.

Stat of the weekend: Capital City was 39 for 39 stealing bases on the weekend; an incredible stat, and a compliment to the player’s hard work and focus.
