Posted Jun 25/14 - CARDINALS BOWL OVER DODGERS

NUTANA, SK - Last night’s game was like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes you find one of those great, dark chocolate covered strawberries, and other times you get those disgusting orange-toothpaste flavoured ones that make you want to yak in your throat a little bit.  The Cardinals had base runners in the first two innings (the good), but could not cash them in running into two double plays to close out the innings (the bad).  In the fifth, with the score tied at three, the Cardinals struck for 6 runs (more good).  The Dodgers picked up two runs in the 6th and another two in the seventh.  Then with runners on first and second and one out, the Cardinals ended the game with a 7-3 double play.  Nolan Machibroda started the game on the mound going two innings with five Ks and no runs.  Ethan Meyer came in throwing gas for the third and fourth innings giving up two unearned runs and garnishing 4 Ks.  The fifth and sixth innings were pitched by Graham Forrester who gave up three unearned runs before turning the ball over to Ryan Crilly.  Crilly, who gave up two unearned runs, earned the save.  The Cardinals were led at the plate by Crilly who went three for four.

Although happy with the win, Cardinals Coach Greg Krawchuk seemed puzzled by the team’s inability to put teams away “I am not sure why we just didn’t shut these guys down when we had the big lead.  Maybe our guys just got tired watching RJ run between 1st and 2nd.  Somehow we have to get better at finishing ball games”.

If the rain stays away, the Cardinals will have their chance to try to finish a game tonight as they host the high flying Jays at Nutana No. 1 (game time at 6:00 pm).
