Posted Jun 7/13 - CARDINALS DUMP DODGERS

There is an old adage in baseball, “pitching plus defence wins games”.  Well last night, just to be sure, the Cardinals added hitting to the mix and came out on top of a 9-4 drubbing of the visiting Humboldt Dodgers.  Unlike his mother’s Honda, Cardinals Ace, Reid Britnell had plenty of zip, mowing down Dodger batters faster than a riding mower.  Britnell, pitched a solid 4 innings allowing only 1 unearned run with 6 Ks.  After Britnell was through, the ball was handed to emerging talent Tyler Stadnichuk who pitched a solid 3 innings, giving up only 3 runs, two unearned.

Coach Crilly was pleased with his team’s performance last night. "We've got a lot of good hitters up and down this lineup, but the key is to make the pitchers work," Crilly said. "Tonight we made them work. Then we got to their bullpen and were able to string some key hits together."

Last night, the Cardinals offence showed glimpses of what it could be.  If they continue to hit the ball and play solid defence, they should be able to compete against any team in the league.
