Posted May 4/20 - 2020 SESBL Season in Limbo

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the status of the Southeast Senior Baseball League season is up in the air. Once the dates for stage 4 of the reopening of Saskatchewan/Manitoba occurs, we will have a better timetabe of our approximate return. For the time being the league is suspended until further notice.

For the 2020 season, the Back Forty Brewers, Grandview Lakers, Parkland Padres and Yorkton Orioles will be taking a leave of absence. This leaves the Canora Supers, Langenburg Legends, Parkland Pirates, Roblin Stars, and Willowbrook Royals as the five remaining teams vying for the league title.

The Annual General Meeting occured via conference call on May 4, with new league President Tyrel Thopre presiding and representing the Langenburg Legends. Greg Clark and Mark Griffitts were there on behalf of the Roblin Stars. Greg Andreychuk (Canora Supers), Mark Jacobs (Parkland Pirates), Jeff Bahrey (Yorkton Orioles), Chris Morrison (Parkland Padres), and Branden Storey (Grandview Lakers) were all part of the call too. The Willowbrook Royals and the Back Forty Brewers had no representation.

It was agreed upon unanimously that league fees would not be charged this year due to the league's good financial position, and the uncertainty of the season's length.

Changes to some league rules were also discussed, with some to be incorporated in the near future. The current league constitution is not up to date, and had a few topics with grey areas. These issues will be pondered, and possibly changed in the coming days/weeks with further discussion. Topics such as raising the league bond from $100 to $200, incorporating higher penalties for forfeiting games, and specific penalties for issues requiring disciplinary action were discussed but all tabled until these issues could be processed in detail. Ultimately we would like no grey areas in the constitution, so all issues could be covered.

There will be no baseball played for the time being, but once we return to the diamonds we hope to have the league running much more smoothly.

Stay safe and see you all on the diamonds when we are given the green light!
