Posted Jan 5/13 - Pflugerville tops McNeil HS, 76-42, to go to 25-0 overall and remain undefeated (4-0) in District action

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Senior guards Amy Staha (21 points) and Taylor Ross (15) combined for 36 points and 11 rebounds to lead nationally-ranked Pflugerville to a 76-42 victory over District 16-5A McNeill High Saturday afternoon. Ross also finished with team-highs of eight rebounds and four assists, while Staha added three rebounds and two steals.

The Panthers jumped out to a 20-5 lead on a Ross steal and fastbreak layup with 2:46 to play in the first quarter. Staha netted 11 points and Ross eight in the first half as P'vlle took a 47-25 lead into intermission.

The win lifts the Panthers to 25-0 overall and to 4-0 in District action. The victory also was the 598th career victory for head coach Nancy Walling who is in her 26th year as Pflugerville girls varsity coach and her 28th season overall as a head coach.

McNeill, which was forced into 28 turnovers, is now 11-11 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The Panthers dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Mavericks, 40-18. P'ville also had 19 steals to McNeil's six.

Panther senior forward Diana Omozee added eight points and seven rebounds to the winning effort.

Pflugerville returns to play on Tuesday, Jan. 8 when it travels to District opponent and fellow Pflugerville ISD member Hendrickson High School. The varsity game tips at 7 p.m.; the junior varsity and freshman Gold (A) games will take place at 5:30 p.m. while the freshman Blue (B) game is a 7 p.m. tip.

The P'ville JV defeated its McNeil counterparts, 52-26 while the Panther freshman Gold defeated the Mavericks, 61-26. The Panther junior varsity was led by junior guard Kiara Sloan's 11 points while freshman guard Mykiel Burleson added nine points. The Panther freshman squad was paced by a season-high 24 points from Denitra German while Deliah Mooney had 16 points and Maykala Brathwaite 12.
