Posted Dec 16/12 - No. 21 nationally ranked Pflugerville moves to 18-0 with 66-29 win over San Marcos; host state-ranked San Antonio Wagner next

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- In another balanced scoring attack and a strong defensive effort, the No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers posted a 66-29 victory over San Marcos Saturday afternoon in San Marcos. The win moved P'ville, ranked No. 21 nationally in the MaxPreps XCellent 25 poll this week, to 18-0. San Marcos, which was held to just eight first-half points by the suffocating Panther defense, is now 5-12.

Pflugerville jumped out to a 26-5 lead after the first quarter and opened up the lead to a 40-8 margin at intermission.

Three Panthers finished in double-figure scoring as senior guard Tatyana Dawson-King led all players with 13 points. Senior guard Taylor Ross and junior guard Alyssa Echols both chipped in with 12 points.

Pflugerville returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in a state 5A top 10 showdown against San Antonio Wagner at home. The varsity game tips at 6:30 p.m. at the Panther Gym. Pflugerville is second and Wagner sits in the No. 10 spot in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine poll.


The Panther junior varsity moved to 14-3 with its 69-32 win over the San Marcos JV squad. Sophomore guard Alyssa Washington netted a game-high 18 points while freshman post Alexis Bryant added 17. The two Panther freshmen teams lost to their San Marcos counterparts. The freshman Gold dropped a 51-44 decision as66-29 Deliah Mooney had 14 points while the freshman Blue lost 33-14.

The Panther team next play on Tuesday, Dec. 18 when they host Wagner. The varsity game, as noted above, begins at 6:30 p.m. while the JV and freshman Gold games are at 5 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. freshman Blue game to follow.
