Posted Jan 10/12 - No. 2 ranked Pflugerville (29-0) defeats No. 9 Georgetown on the road, 65-48, in District 16-5A play; moves to 5-0 in district action
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Behind a season-high and game-high 19 points from junior forward Diana Omozee and a double-double from senior forward Itiana Taylor (16 points, game-high 12 rebounds), the undefeated No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers stopped No. 9 ranked District 16-5A opponent Georgetown, 65-48, Tuesday night. The win moves Pflugerville to 29-0 overall and puts the Panthers in sole possession of first place in the district at 5-0.

The Panthers dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Georgetown 32-15. Georgetown is now 20-3 and 4-1 in the district. Pflugerville also is ranked No. 1 in this week's Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 5A poll and stands No. 3 in the MaxPreps Texas state poll and No. 15 nationally in the MaxPreps rankings.

Taylor and junior guard Taylor Ross (PICTURED) jump-started the Panthers as Pflugerville led 22-10 after one quarter. Pflugerville was up by 10 (35-25) at intermission before Georgetown used 3-point shooting to close the gap and tie the game at 37-all with three minutes left in the third period. At that point, the Panthers' full-court pressure created turnovers and fast break opportunities as the Panthers finished the quarter with a 48-39 lead.

In the final quarter, P'ville used a 17-9 run to finish out the game and pull away for the win.

These two District opponents last met in March during the UIL State 5A regional championship game (final eight) where Georgetown, the defending District 16-5A titlist, prevailed. Pflugerville placed second in the district a year ago.

Ross finished with 10 points. A fourth Panther netted double-figure scoring against the Eagles as junior guard Brenisha Payne finished with 10 points. Senior guard Aril Booth added seven points. Taylor led the way with a team-high five assists.

The Panthers went 3-for-6 from the foul line while the Eagles were 11-for-15 in free throws. Senior guard Emily Johnson led Georgetown with 17 points.

Pflugerville will play four of its next five games at home, beginning with a Friday, Jan. 13 District contest against Leander. That varsity game tips at 7:30 p.m. at Panther Gym.
