Posted Nov 29/11 - Former PHS standout and current Tulane University freshman Adesuwa Ebomwonyi named Conference USA Freshman of the Week
NEW ORLEANS- Former Pflugerville All-State standout Adeuwa Ebomwonyi was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week on November 27. The 5-10 Green Wave rookie forward earns the first honor of her career after nearly averaging a double-double in last week's play as she helped Tulane go 2-1. Ebomwonyi has been a big contributor in Tulane's 5-1 start as she is fifth overall in team scoring (7.7 ppg) and second in rebounding (8.3 rpg) with two starts in her first six games.
For the week, Ebomwonyi averaged 10.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.3
assists per game, and connected on 48.0 percent of her shots from the
field (12-of-25) as Tulane defeated the University of New Orleans (86-39) and Idaho State (45-37) and lost to No. 15 Purdue (61-48). She had a career-high 15 points against Idaho State, a career-best 10 rebounds against New Orleans, and registered nine points and 10 rebounds against Purdue. At PHS, Ebomwonyi earned All-State, All-Region, All-District and Academic All-State honors in her three years starring for coach Nancy Walling, helping the Panthers go 91-19 in her three-year varsity career with one State Tournament semifinal showing (2010) and a regional finalist (Final Eight) finish last year. A National Honor Society graduate who also starred on the Panther soccer team, Ebomwonyi was a 2011 McDonald's Basketball All-America nominee and was named the District 25-5A MVP as a junior. She completed her outstanding PHS career with 996 points and 881 rebounds.
