Posted Nov 22/11 - State-ranked Pflugerville improves to 10-0 with 74-33 win over Midway as four score in double digits; Itiana Taylor logs her sixth double-double
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas-- Behind senior forward Itiana Taylor's double-double and game-highs of 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, the No. 8 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers posted a 74-33 victory over Waco Midway HS Tuesday night at the Panther Gym. Taylor (pictured) has now registered six double-doubles in the Panthers' first 10 games, including four in a row.

After a tight first quarter which found the Panthers ahead by seven, 17-10, P'ville outscored the visitors 45-7 over the next two quarters, led by Taylor and junior forward Jonelle Smith. Smith finished with 15 points.

Midway (2-7) scored four points in the second period as Pflugerville led 37-14 at the break and was held to a lone 3-pointer in the third quarter.

Joining Taylor and Smith in double-figure scoring were junior forward Diana Omozee who notched 13 points and junior guard Brenisha Payne (12 points). Omozee also finished with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Smith had six rebounds and Payne had a game-high five steals. Senior guard Jasmyn Booker added nine points.

In the latest weekly state 5A basketball polls, Pflugerville stands No. 8 in both the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine (Texas Basketball Coaches Association poll) and in the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) rankings.

The games were the last for P'ville prior to the Thanksgiving break. Pflugerville returns to action next Tuesday, November 29 when it hosts Cedar Park in a non-district game on Parents Night. The varsity tips at 7 p.m., with the junior varsity and freshman Gold (A) teams playing at 5:30 p.m.; also at 7 p.m., the P'ville and Cedar Park freshman Blue (B) teams square off.

The Pflugerville junior varsity and freshman Gold squads picked up wins over Midway while the Panther freshman Blue team defeated Westlake. The JV ran its record to 7-0 with a 63-14 win behind 12 points from sophomore post T'iara Pitts and 11 from sophomore guard Stephanie Onyeje.

The Panthers' Gold freshmen earned a 70-56 win over Midway as guard Alyssa Washington poured in 30 points. In the freshman Blue game against Westlake, the Panthers won a closely-contested game, 34-30, with Jahnae Williams finishing with 13 points and 10 steals. The freshmen Blue team is now 2-0.
