Posted Nov 15/11 - Pflugerville posts 74-48 victory over A&M Consolidated behind Taylor's double-double

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas-- Senior post Itiana Taylor (pictured) notched game-highs of 17 points and junior guard Taylor Ross added 15 points and a game-best six assists to lead state-ranked Pflugerville to a 74-48 victory over A&M Consolidated Tuesday night at the Panther Gym.

Pflugerville, playing its first home game of the year, moves to 3-0. A&M drops to 4-3.

The Panthers held a seven-point lead at intermission, 34-27, before exploding for a 22-11 run in the third quarter behind a tough defensive effort which saw A&M turn the ball over eight times. That run pushed the Panthers' lead to 56-38 entering the final quarter.

Joining Taylor and Ross in double-digit scoring was senior guard Jasmyn Booker with 12 points. Booker, who also had five assists, connected on three 3-pointers to lead the Panthers' effort from long range. P'ville finished six for 11 from long range.

Junior forwards Diana Omozee and Jonelle Smith each added eight points.

A&M Consolidated turned the ball over 26 times and the Panthers had 15 steals.

In junior varsity play against A&M Consolidated, Pflugerville picked up a 75-19 win to move to 3-0. Sophomore post Tierra Pitts (15 points), junior guard Lexi Box (10 points) and sophomore guard Alyssa Echols (10 points) lead the way for PHS. Echols also had a game-high six assists.

Both Panther freshmen teams were in action. The Panther Gold (A) team, led by a game-high 27 points by guard Alyssa Washington, won by a 66-44 to move to 3-0. The Freshman Blue (B) squad won 28-15. Post Deja Coleman had seven points to lead PHS.

The Panthers return to action Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 17-19, at the Greater Austin Tournament. All three Pflugerville teams open tourney play against Leander's Rouse HS on Thursday. All pool play is being hosted by PHS.

The Panther varsity plays at 11:30 a.m. while the junior varsity 10 a.m. and the freshman being tourney action at 8:30 a.m.
