Posted Nov 11/11 - Panthers post easy 83-19 victory over Killeen HS as five register double-figure scoring

KILLEEN, Texas- Jumping out to a 52-11 lead at halftime, the state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers cruised to an 83-19 victory over Killeen High School Friday night in a non-conference game.

Pflugerville, ranked 8th in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A poll and 16th in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC)/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine 5A poll, is now 2-0. The Kangaroos are 0-2.

Leading the way for the Panthers were junior guard Bre Payne with a game-high 15 points while senior forward Itiana Taylor added her second double-double of the year, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Taylor Ross (13 points), senior guard Ari Booth (12 points) and junior forward Jonelle Smith (12 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

Ross also had a career-high and game-high nine steals.

The Panther junior varsity and freshman Gold teams also improved to 2-0 with victories over their Killeen opponents. The JV won 73-31 as sophomores Stephanie Onyeje and Jaden Strum each registered 20 points. The Panther freshmen, behind guard Alyssa Washington's 23 points, picked up a 55-11 victory.

All Pflugerville teams return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when they host A&M Consolidated in their first home contests of the year. The varsity plays at 7 p.m., preceded by the JV (5:30 p.m.) and freshmen games.
