Posted Feb 8/11 - Pflugerville closes out regular season with 76-40 win over Leander; Panthers await State playoff pairings to be announced Feb. 9
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- On Pflugerville "Senior Night", three of the four Panther players in double-figures were seniors as the Panthers closed out regular season play with a 76-40 victory over District 16-5A opponent Leander HS. Pflugerville held Leander to just nine points in the second half.

Pflugerville will enter the 2011 Texas state 5A playoffs with a 26-6 overall record. The Panthers finished second in District play (10-2) - with the two losses by a total of 12 points to Georgetown which won the league - and is one of four teams from the District to advance to the playoffs, joining Georgetown, Round Rock and McNeil. 

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Texas State Tournament first-round pairings will be announced. Please check back for more details on Pflugerville's first-round game.

Against Leander, 10 of the 11 Panthers who took to the floor scored. Junior forward Itiana Taylor led the four Panthers in double-figure scoring, netting 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

The senior trio of post Nneka Enemkpali and forwards Adesuwa Ebomwonyi and Deborah Roucloux  followed, with Enemkpali scoring 11 points and Ebomwonyi and Roucloux adding 10 points each. Ebomwonyi pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and had a game-high five steals, while Enemkpali had six rebounds and three blocks.

After taking a 42-31 lead into intermission, Pflugerville clamped down on defense, out-scoring the Lions 18-4 in the third quarter to push its lead to 60-35 heading into the final period.

Pflugerville had 20 steals in the game to Leander's three.

With the victory, the Panthers finished 2010-11 home court play with a 9-2 record.

Panther JV and freshmen teams also close out seasons with victories

The Panthers junior varsity squad went undefeated against District 16-5A opponents and finished their district schedule with a 12-0 mark after a 78-31 victory over Leander. Sophomore forward Amy Staha had a game-high 19 points, while sophomores Diana Omozee and Brenisha Payne added 10 points apiece.
