Posted Jan 21/11 - Panthers improve to 23-5 with 72-51 District win over Stony Point
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Behind three players in double-figure scoring, including another double-double from senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi, No. 8 state ranked Pflugerville cruised to a 72-51 victory over District opponent Stony Point Friday night at Stony Point.

Pflugerville moves to 23-5 overall and stands 7-1 in District 16-5A action. Junior forward Itiana Taylor and senior point guard Curtiesha Woods led the way with 14 points apiece.

Stony Point is now 15-11 and 2-5 in the District. The Panthers held a commanding 41-20 edge in rebounding.

Ebomwonyi logged another double-digit scoring and rebounding night as she finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds and added a game-high five steals. Senior post Nneka Enemkpali added eight points. Enemkpali pulled down five rebounds, as did senior post Dee Hyder and senior forward Kaela Thompson.

The Panthers scored 46 points in the second and third quarter while their defense held the Tigers to 20 points in that span.

With a 22-13 scoring advantage in the second quarter, P'ville held a 35-25 lead at intermission. Pflugerville closed out the first half behind six straight points from Taylor on two fastbreak layups and two free throws.

In the third quarter, the Panthers steadily pulled away. A Woods' 3-pointer with 4:51 gave the Panthers a 16-point edge, 45-29. After two Stony Point free throws, Pflugerville ran off a 12-1 scoring spurt and pushed its lead to 57-32 following a putback by senior forward Shoneice Yett with 2:12 to go.

Pflugerville had 13 steals to Stony Point's five. The Panthers went 10 for 16 in free throws while the Tigers connected on 19 of 24 foul shots attempted.

Pflugerville will play only one game next week. The Panthers were scheduled to meet Marble Falls on Monday (Jan. 24) but Marble Falls canceled the game.

The Panthers will return to play on Friday, Jan. 28 when they travel to District opponent Westwood HS for a 7:30 p.m. game. P'ville posted a 56-19 win over the Warriors on Jan. 4 at Pflugerville in the first of their two district contests.

Panther JV, Freshman Gold and Blue also win; in action Tuesday against Cedar Ridge

The Pflugerville JV, freshman Gold (A team) and freshman Blue (B team) squads also picked up wins over Stony Point.

The Panther junior varsity remains undefeated (8-0) against District opponents with a 58-13 victory. Sophomore forward Diana Omozee netted 10 points to lead 10 Panthers who scored.

The freshman Gold won 64-18 and the Blue team cruised to a 44-8 win.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Panther JV and Freshman Gold teams will travel to Cedar Ridge, Round Rock ISD's newest high school which has freshmen and sophomores only. The Freshman Gold play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. Panther JV game.
