Posted Jan 14/11 - Pflugerville back on winning track with 70-34 victory over District opponent Leander
Cedar Park, Texas - Holding Leander to 17 points in each half and to 22 percent shooting in the game, the No. 10 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers cruised to a 70-34 win over the Lions Friday night at Leander High School.

The Panthers, now 21-5 overall, improve to 5-1 in District 16-5A. Leander, which was held to 11 for 49 shooting, falls to 13-15 and to 1-4 in the district.

In a game marred by fouls, the Panthers connected on 21 of 28 free throws. The Lions hit 13 of 23 of their foul shots.

Pflugerville, which shot 46 percent from the floor, dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Leander 49-23. Senior posts Nneka Enemkpali and Dee Hyder along with sophomore guard Taliyah Brooks each pulled down six rebounds.

Enemkpali led all scorers with 12 points, and Brooks followed with 10 points. Brooks also had a game-high three steals.

Pflugerville next plays on Tuesday, Jan. 18, hosting Round Rock High School in a 7:30 p.m. District contest. This will be the second time these two squads meet in the home-and-home league format. The Panthers earned a 58-43 win at Round Rock on Dec. 21.

Pflugerville JV, Freshman Gold also pick up wins against Leander

The Panthers' junior varsity posted a 60-21 win over Leander Friday night behind a game-high 21 points from Erin Mackenzie Coffey.  The freshman Gold (A) squad picked up an easy 70-15 victory over their Lion counterparts.

They also face Round Rock on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at home with the Freshman Gold playing at 5:15 p.m. followed by the 6 p.m. junior varsity game. There is no Round Rock freshman "B" team so the Panthers' freshmen Blue will not play.
