Well Spurs fans, unfortunately, the season has come to a close. Your Cloverdale Spurs gave it everything they had but were unable to beat a determined Abbotsford team as the Spurs fell 12-6 to their arch rivals.
The game literally started with a bang as the Abbotsford lead-off hitter hit a home run off the first pitch. It continued on in the same inning as Abbotsford hit another 2 run homer. By the time all was said and done, it was 6-0 after the first inning. But to the credit and character of the Cloverdale Spurs, they did not give up. The Spurs answered with 6 runs of their own in the 4th inning. But Abbotsford came back and scored 6 more funs in their 3 last at bats.
We are all proud of what the Spurs accomplished this past season. Their overall record was 18 wins and only 4 losses and as mentioned in previous entries, they excelled defensively and offensively. The boys all got along as a team (as did their families) and we had a fun and enjoyable season together.
Everyone on the team contributed throughout the season. Connor, Trevor, Noah, Reese, Jake, Jeff, Thomas, Bryce, Kyle, Kristjan, Brent and Nick - you should all be proud of your accomplishments.
The coaches did a tremendous job in developing the team and creating a great environment to play in. Pat, Joe, John and Brad - thank you for the wonderful job you did coaching and leading this team to all their success.
Several Spurs players have been picked up by the two teams (Ridge Meadows and Abbotsford) that will be representing BC at the Western Championships in Brandon, Manitoba on Aug 20-23. We wish all the best for Nick, Reese, Kyle, Kristjan and Jeff. Ironically, Nick and Kyle will be playing against Kristjan, Reese and Jeff.
To the fans - thank you for all your support throughout the season. Good luck to all next year and enjoy the rest of your summer.
