Posted Aug 3/10 - Spurs finish strong

Well Spurs fans, if there was any doubt that the Spurs' bats  had quieted down, they were all erased on Sunday, August 1 when the Spurs played Kamloops in the morning and then Nanaimo in the afternoon.

Yours truly was unable to attend so there are very little details. Probably a good thing for the opposition as the total combined score was 48 -4 for the Spurs!

In the first game, the Spurs took 5 innings to beat Kamloops 13-3.  In the second game, the Spurs strong hitting combined with a bunch of walks from the Nanaimo pitching, resulted in a 35 -1 victory  (yes that's right) in a five innings over Nanaimo. (highlighted by an inside the park home run by Reese Frey)

Overall the Spurs finished with an 11 and 1 record, scoring 138 runs while allowing only 31 runs against.

The challenge for the Spurs now is to keep sharp and maintain their intensity as they head to Kamloops for the provincials.  First game is on Thursday at noon against the always competitive Ladner Red Sox.

The Spurs will have to keep focused as they are in a tough qualifying pool with Vancouver, Ladner, Victoria Black and White Rock. Top 2 teams in the pool make the semi finals.

Go Spurs!
