Posted Dec 8/11 - Two Road District Wins for the Rockets

The Forrest Rockets Boys Basketball team bounced back from a difficult Thanksgiving tournament schedule to notch two wins in District 9A over the past week.

On Friday Dec. 2, the Rockets traveled to Lynchburg, TN to battle a fiesty Moore Co. team.  Forrest jumped out to 19 - 9 first quarter lead with three point baskets from Tyler Rumley and Marshall Hunter, and 8 first quarter points from Zach Horvath.  An increased intensity and a suffocating full court press saw Moore County come storming back in the second quarter; outscoring the Rockets 22-13.  An unbelievable half court shot just before the half for the Moore County Blue Raiders, brought the halftime tally to 32-31, Forrest.

The Rockets battled foul trouble all night, and looked to some younger players to step up in the second half.  At the end of a back and forth third quarter the Rockets still held a 48 - 46 lead.  This was almost the difference, as Forrest held off a late Moore County rush, to win the ballgame 64-61.

Mark Pope finished the game with 20 points, Tyler Rumley added 14, and Zach Horvath scored 13.  Jacob Daughrity proved to be a difference maker as well, playing incredible "on-the-ball" defense and scoring 5 big points in the fourth quarter.  The Rockets finished the game splashing 9 three pointers and shooting 68% from the line.

With a 1-0 record in District 9A, the Rockets traveled on Tuesday to Eagleville, TN to face-off with the Eagles.  Coach Hobbs wanted to emphasize defense in this game, as he was not pleased with the amount of points given up to Moore County.  The Rockets rose to the occassion and held the Eagles to 11 points below their season average.  The final score was 67-48 Rockets.

Forrest used a powerful press break offense and some sharp shooting in the second half to outscore the Eagles 35 - 24 after the intermission.  Mark Pope paced the Rockets with 22 points, Zach Horvath added 20, while Tyler Rumley and Jacob Daughrity dropped 6 each.  The remaining scorers were as follows: Zimmerman 4, Hoeft 2, Hunter 3, Kennedy 2, and Woods 2.

The Rockets are home against the Huntland Hornets on Friday Dec. 9th and will travel to Cornersville High School for a 4pm make-up game on Saturday Dec. 10th.  Check back with ForrestHoops.com for all of your Forrest Rocket Boys Basketball coverage.
