Posted Nov 6/11 - Season Tip-Off: First JV Game Preview
The JV Boys Basketball team at Forrest will be the first squad to hit the hardwood for the Rockets this season. Their opening game will be Tuesday Nov. 8th at 7pm in the gym at Forrest High School.  Coach Toombs and Coach Hobbs will be excited to see the Rockets take the court, but will hope that their conditioning and offseason workouts have paid off.  Due to the outstanding play of the Rocket Football team, the JV squad will begin season competition with only 8 players.  The coaches and players are not viewing this as a negative, but as an opportunity to get better and really compete.

"Without some of the football guys, our players will have to show mental as well as physical toughness to battle our opponents while being a little tired," Coach Hobbs said.  "Can we use our legs to shoot free throws in the fourth quarter, and stay mentally focused to execute the offense? We will have to see, but I think we have the competitors to accept this challenge."

This JV game will pit the Forrest Rockets against the Nashville Central Christian Warriors.  Always bringing worthy competition to the Rockets, NCC will execute, play hard, and pressure the basketball.  To handle the aggressive defense, Forrest will lean on Sophomore guards Ty Hoeft and Caleb Keller.  These players will combine with freshmen Will Edmonson and Colton Cook to break through the pressure and set up the offense.  The paint for the Rockets will be manned by first year player and Senior forward Jordan Woods, first year player and Sophomore Kennedy Mathis, and Freshman Jake Townsend.  As the offense looks to take advantage both inside and out, you can bet that it will run through Sophomore Chase Hensley.  He brings a versatile combination of shooting from the outside, as well as slashing to the basket.  All 8 Rockets will have to log maximum minutes while trying to limit mistakes and convert opportunities.

With improvement as the ultimate goal for the JV basketball season, this game will provide a baseline to monitor player growth for the future.  Win or Lose, the Rockets will look to magnify and continue the strengths of the team, as well as correct any weaknesses that become apparent.
