Inside Performance is proud to partner up with some of BC’s top National and Professional baseball players for some Christmas baseball camps. Joining the Inside Performance coaching staff will be Major League Baseball players Adam Loewen and Rene Tosoni, Olympians Jimmy Van Ostrand and Brooks McNiven, as well as MiLB players, Canadian National team members and Pan Am games gold medalists Shawn Bowman and Cole Armstrong.

Cole Armstrong – 2012 – Miami Marlins

Cole played for Whalley Little League and the PBL Fraser Valley Chiefs. He spent three years on the Junior National team before playing college baseball at the University of Kansas and Chipola JC before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2003. Has played in 10 seasons in the Minor Leagues and four seasons with the Chicago White Sox AAA and Los Angeles Angels AAA. In 2012 he played with the Miami Marlins' AAA team, the New Orleans Zephers. Cole is active with the Senior National team (2009‐2012). He was part of the Baseball World Cup team that won
Bronze in 2009 and 2011, and was starting catcher when the team captured Gold at he 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico. Cole lives in Glendale, AZ. during the off season.

 

 

Shawn Bowman – 2012 – Miami Marlins

Shawn played Coquitlam Little League and with the PBL Coquitlam Reds. Shawn spent 2001 and 2002 with the Junior National team and was drafted in the 12th round in 2002 by the New York Mets. He played AA ball in the Mets organization from 2002‐ 2009 and with Toronto Blue Jays in 2010. In 2011 he played AAA for the Atlanta Braves, and the Miami Marlins AAA last season. Shawn has been a mainstay at 3B for the National Senior team from 2009‐ 2012 and won Bronze at the Baseball World Cup in 2009 and 2011, also claiming All World Team status in ’09. Bowman was part of Team Canada’s entry in the 2009 World Baseball Classic and took home Gold at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico. Shawn was the Coquitlam Male Athlete of the Year in 2011. In the off season Shawn lives in Langley with his fiancée and regularly instructs at IP.
 

Adam Loewen – 2012 – New York Mets

Adam played Whalley Little League and was part of the 1996 team representing Canada in Williamsport. He also played for the PBL Fraser Valley Chiefs. Adam played college ball at Chipola JC before getting drafted as a pitcher in the 1st round, 4th overall in the 2003 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Due to injury Adam made the transition to a position player. In 2009‐2011. Adam played for the Toronto Blue Jays Triple A affiliate in Buffalo. Last season Adam was acquired by the New York Mets and played Triple A in Las Vegas. Adam calls Scottsdale, Az. his off-season home.
 

Brooks McNiven – San Francisco Giants

Brooks was a pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization for seven years and played as high as AAA. Brooks was also a starting pitcher with the National team from 2007 ‐ 2009. He played in 2007 and 2009 Baseball World Cups as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since his playing career has come to an end he has been the pitching coach at Douglas College and is currently the pitching coach with the North Shore Twins as well as Head Coach of the West Vancouver Baseball Academy at Sentinel High School. Brooks has an extensive knowledge of the pitching game and has been very successful in helping develop pitchers aged 8‐24 over the last number of years. Currently Brooks resides in Kitsilano and is a partner at Inside Performance Training Facility in North Vancouver.
 

Jimmy Van Ostrand – Washington Nationals

Jimmy played BC Minor for the Richmond Budgies and played PBL for the North Delta Blue Jays. He later played college ball at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA and Cal Poly– San Luis Obispo, CA before being drafted by the Houston Astros in the 8th round of the 2006 MLB draft. Jimmy was a MiLB Futures Game Participant. In 2012 Jimmy played for the Washington Nationals' AA affiliate, Harrisburg Senators. Jimmy is also a mainstay with the Canadian National Program including the 2007, 2009 (Bronze Medal) and 2011 (Bronze Medal) Baseball World Cups, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2011 Pan Am Games (Gold Medal), and 2012 World Baseball Qualifier. Southern California is Jimmy's off-season home.
 

Rene Tosoni – Minnesota Twins

Rene played BC Minor baseball in Port Coquitlam, BC and for the PBL Coquitlam Reds. He played college baseball at Chipola JC before being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round of the 2005 MLB draft. Rene was an Appalachian League All Star in 2007 and a Eastern League All Star in 2009. Tosoni was the MLB Futures Game MVP in 2009. Rene made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in April 2011. Rene was a member of the National Junior team in 2004 and Senior Team member in 2009 (Bronze Medal at World Cup) and 2012. Rene lives in Chandler, Az. in the off season.
