Posted Jul 29/12 - Angels split double-header with Cloverdale

In a match-up that featured the number 1 Cloverdale Black Spurs and the number 2 Abbotsford Angels, Sunday's double-header had all the makings of an interesting day.  On a clear, hot sunny day, the battle for first place went down at Townline Park in Abbotsford.

In the first game, the Angels spotted the Spurs four runs in the first inning.  It was a lead that the Spurs would not give up.  Cloverdale's bats found the gaps while Abbotsford's hitters, (who hit the ball hard) could not match the Spurs bats.  A home run by Austen was the only offensive highlight for the Angels.

Game Two was a different story as the Angels tightened up their defence and started finding holes in the Spurs field.  Liam pitched a great game and went 5 1/2 innings.  He was relieved by Austen who quickly dispatched the Spurs.   The Angels made timely hits especially in situations with runners on the bases.  Final score - Angels 4, Cloverdale 2.

The double-header split took the Angels to a 35-6 won/loss record with one game remaining.

On Monday night at 6:30 at Bird Field in Port Coquitlam,  the Angels will play their last regular season game against the always tough Tri-City Indians.  Although the outcome will not have an impact on their final standing, the Angels will want to finish the season with a great performance.

Go Angels!
