MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon/Woonsocket/Sanborn Central beat Vermillion 7-4 and Dakota Valley 7-6 Sunday.
MV/W/SC improved to 6-3 with the two wins.
The Outlaws grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Vermillion and held on for the win.
Nate Zens picked up the win after throwing 6 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run, three hits, walked two and struck out eight.
Zens also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run and three RBIs. Dean Frey went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Cody London went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
MV/W/SC had a 7-5 lead against Dakota Valley going into the seventh inning, but DV scored a run in the final frame.
The Outlaws held on for the win as Cody London picked up the win after pitching five innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out five.
Cam Deinert earned the save by pitching the final two innings.
Zens went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Deinert and Justin Davis both added an RBI for the Outlaws.
MV/W/SC’s next game is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Vernon against Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian. The junior varsity play first, followed by the varsity. |
