MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon /Woonsocket/Sanborn Central high school baseball team defeated Corsica /Stickney/Armour/Plankinton 4-1 Thursday in Mount Vernon.
The Outlaws were led by Nate Zens, who picked up the win. Zens threw three innings and didn’t allow a hit. He struck out five and walked two.
Zens was 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs. Brian Vermeulen was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Jake Sonne, Cam Deinert and Cody London each had one hit.
Aaron Groeneweg was the losing pitcher for the Express. He threw two innings, allowed two hits and walked one. He struck out two.
Keifer Johnson and Groeneweg each had a double.
The Outlaws (1-0) play at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Vernon against Parkston. Mount Vernon /Woonsocket/Sanborn Central won the JV game 3-2. |
