Posted Nov 16/10 - Five double-figure scorers pace Pflugerville to 73-40 victory over Hendrickson

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas- Behind another balanced scoring effort, with five players in double-digit scoring, the state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers registered a 73-40 win over cross-town opponent Hendrickson Tuesday night at the Panther Gym.

Pflugerville raced out to a 15-5 lead four minutes into the game and stretched the lead to 23 (44-21) at intermission.

The Panthers, now 2-1, shot 48 percent from the floor. The senior duo of post Nneka Enemkpali and Adesuwa Ebomwonyi combined for 26 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks. Enemkpali had game-highs of 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ebomwonyi had 12 points and pulled down eight boards.

Rounding out the double-figure scorers were sophomore point guard Taliyah Brooks (12 points), sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (11 points) and junior guard Ari Booth (10 points).

Hendrickson (0-3) committed 23 turnovers under the Panthers' defensive pressure. Pflugerville had 17 steals in the contest.

The Panthers out-rebounded the Hawks by a 43-27 margin. Hendrickson was limited to 32 percent shooting from the floor, making 14 of 45 shots from the field.

Pflugerville returns to action on Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 18-20 at the Greater Austin Area Tournament. Pflugerville will host games on Thursday at the two P'ville gyms. McNeil HS is the main host of the multi-level tournament.

The Panthers open tournament action Thursday morning with a 10:30 a.m. game against Elgin at the Panther Gym. 

Pflugerville's second game of the tourney will be held Friday afternoon, at a time and location TBA, and will continue play through Saturday.

The Pflugerville junior varsity improved to 3-0 with a 68-16 victory over Hendrickson behind sophomore guard Brenisha Payne's game-high 22 points and sophomore forward Amy Staha, who added 16. P'ville had 15 steals in the game.

The Panther freshman Gold ("A") team, behind Brianna Thomas' 16 points and four steals, also improved to 3-0 with a win over the Hendrickson freshmen. Guard Alyssa Echols had 15 points and eight assists, while forward Kalea King had 14 points, five assists and six steals.

The Pflugerville junior varsity next is in action on Thursday, Nov. 18 when it competes in the Lampases varsity tournament. Thursday, P'ville faces Burnet at 1 p.m. and then plays Odessa Permian at 4 p.m., with both games in the round-robin action. Friday, the Panthers face Lubbock HS at 4 p.m. and host Lampases at 7 p.m. to close out tourney play. All of Pflugerville's opponents will be varsity squads.

The Pflugerville freshman Gold (A team) and Blue (B team) squads will play in the Greater Austin Area Tournament. This will be the P'ville Blue team's first action of the year. The freshman will play Thursday and Friday, Nov. 18 and 19, in that tourney. The Gold team will play in the JV division, while the Blue team competes in the freshmen tournament. 

On Thursday, Pflugerville will host varsity, junior varsity and freshman games as part of the Greater Austin Area tourney.

Thursday, the Panther Gold team opens tourney play against the Elgin JV at noon, with that game played at Pflugerville's Panther Gym. The Freshman Blue squad plays Elgin at 9 am, also at P'ville in the small gym.
