Murphy won its second tournament of the season, capturing Fairhope High's Back-to-School Bash over the weekend. The Lady Panthers (13-1) swept through the competition, capped by a 25-19, 25-18 win against Gulf Shores in the championship match.
Murphy knocked off Daphne (6-6) 26-24, 25-12 in one semifinal while the Lady Dolphins downed Bayside Academy in the other. Foley, Robertsdale, UMS-Wright, Mobile Christian, Baker and Bryant were among the other teams competing.
The Lady Panthers will look to continue their dominating play with a home tri-match tonight against Spanish Fort and Robertsdale.
County players making the all-tournament team were Gulf Shores' Erin Brett, Fairhope's Tori Roszkowski (21 kills, eight blocks), Bayside's Savannah Simmons and Daphne's Courtney Carter (11 kills).
"We struggled with our serve receive in the tournament," said Daphne coach Kay Flarity. "We have some things to work on."
Flarity added that her team has to pick things up quickly as a home area match with Satsuma tonight and a road area match against Baldwin County on Thursday highlight this week's schedule.
"It's a big week for us," Flarity said. "We're not playing real well right now but it's early in the season. It seems like we work on one of the things we need to work on and another thing pops up. We'll be working on putting it all together in the next few weeks though."
The Lady Trojans will be without the services of starting setter Brooke Carpenter for three to four weeks after she suffered a strained ligament in her ankle during a recent match at Foley.
